2. Primary Audience
The target audience for a media product.
My Primary Audience was people between the ages of
24-30. These people fall under the income bracket of B-
C2. Kulture is a magazine that is aimed at men from
any ethnic group due to Kulture being a sophisticated
magazine that is aimed at people who don’t see
difference in their fellow lovers of the ‘Kulture’ in
terms of gender and sexuality especially when you see
the repeated pattern of pink. People who read Kulture
are fashion forward and challenge the roots of urban
genres.
Summary of who your primary and secondary audience
were? Is this still an appropriate audience? Why?
3. Secondary Audience
The substantial number of viewers or consumers outside of the
primary audience. These are the people I don’t expect to read the
magazine. These are the people who will add to my statistics
and sales, helping the print sales to have a slight increase.
Who are these people really?
These are the siblings of the target audience who are teenagers
and have heard about the magazine from their older, working
siblings. The secondary audience would usually read magazines
like Kulture but my magazine is aimed at 24-30 year olds who are
sophisticated(note the income bracket) and can afford to buy a
monthly issue that costs £4.99 and also the paid subscription to
the magazines pre-orders.

4. I believe that I chose the correct target audience for my magazine
because of a number of reasons, the first would obviously be the
price tag of the magazine because a normal magazine such as
Kerrang costs £2.50 and is aimed at a mass audience who can
spare £2.50 to buy the magazine. Now on the other the hand
Kulture is double the amount and is directed at a niche market of
mid 20’s to 30’s group of people who love rap for the good and
not the bad and that would be drugs and fornication. A small
pointer would be that Wacko is wearing a Levis jacket – Levis
was a trending brand during the early 2000s and the ‘99 era. Now
this makes sense that our headlining artist is wearing Levis
because most of our target audience may be familiar with the
brand and will identify with it due to them wearing them in the
past before the change in trends. These jackets are now vintage
and are being brought back into fashion and this is where
Kulture is also going to influence the audience to go back that
trend.

5. This is a copy of the survey I emailed/gave to
4 people I know who are sophisticated and
fall under the income bracket of B-C2
6. 1- All four of the questionees gave the front cover a 4 out of 5 due to it’s
professionalism
2- 3 out of the 4 audience members gave the contents page a 4 out of 5 and
the 1 person gave it a 3 out of 5

7. Would you change your target audience
based on audience feedback?
In my opinion from the feedback that I’ve gotten from people that I
personally know so far before I even get external feedback, I would not
change my audience. I believe with a few more advancements made to the
magazine it would be appreciated widely by all sophisticated people
whether they are frequent rap followers or not. The most important feedback
for me was the one on the article because this is where they tasted the
‘Kulture’ from the topics spoken upon in the interview. These people who
gave the feedback all strongly disagree with the normal conventions of rap
such as women, drugs and ‘false riches’ this is why they really enjoyed
reading the article because not many rap magazines cover the real side of the
artists’ lives. In the media industry it is also common that independent
companies create for niche audiences because these usually bring realism to
the product which only a majority agree with or are brave enough to speak
out on it. Increasing, audiences are becoming more and more media savvy.
This means that they are more aware of the process of mediation and
therefore do not accept everything in media as reality, in this context, the
more sophisticated are aware of the fact that most of these rappers are not as
wealthy as they use media to make them up to be. The audience I chose
suited my product and the ideologies it accepted and challenged. However
to cement my existing target audience I should have added something to
show that Kulture is for a mature audience such as a cover line about a
classic rap group such as A Tribe Called Q uest.
