6. Nathaniel Russell was a Rhode
Islander, but made a fortune in
Charleston from the tobacco, cotton,
and slave trades.

7. The house appears just as it
did in 1808. As such, it hold
great educational value for
the history of the Russell
family.

8. You can also learn about how wealthy
Americans lived two centuries ago.

House Museum

10. The Aiken-Rhett
House was built
in 1820.

11. It belonged to a merchant who was
forced to sell it after he lost five ships
at sea.

12. An Irish immigrant named William
Aiken bought it, and his son began
renovations.

13. The house also houses a formidable art
collection, which is fully restored!
