2. âą This riot took place in the 26th of October 1956 during the
government of Lim Yew Hock
âą Lim Yew Hock want to control the Communist-led
activities, so he shut down the Singapore Chinese Middle
School Studentsâ Union
âą He also arrested 4 students from Chung Cheng High
School and Chinese High School.
âą In order to protest against the governmentâs action, the
students camped in school for 2 weeks
3. âą The government asked the parents to ask their children to
go back home on 24 October 1956. However, it was not
successful.
âą On the same day, Lim Chin Siong, a pro-communist
leader have a meeting with the workers near the Chinese
High School The workers then joined the students after
their meeting
âą The police used tear gas to made the students run away
from the school
4. âą When the students ran to the city, they staged a riot and
threw stones and bottle. They even overturn cars and
spoil traffic lights.
âą The riot continued for 3 days then the government
imposed a restriction
âą After the riot, Lim Yew Hock arrested the communist-
influence people which includes Lim Chin Swee and Fong
Swee Suan, the union leaders
5. âą The government also nticed that the riot is similar to Hock
Lee Bus Riot because the communist used the students
and the workers to stage a riot.
âą Lim Yew Hock made the British think confidently because
he solve the riot sucessfully
âą The government also was amazed with Lim Yew Hockâs
hard posture because he arrested the correct people who
was involved in communist activity
