- This class has opened my eyes to all of the new and fun ways to get yourself in the public eye and to help students brand themselves in order to help with the success of their futures.
- Media designed to be disseminated through social interaction, created using highly accessible and scalable publishing techniques. Social media supports the human need for social interaction with technology, transforming broadcast media monologues (one to many) into social media dialogues (many to many). It supports the democratization of knowledge and information, transforming people from content consumers into content producers. Businesses also refer to social media as user-generated content or consumer-generated media.
- A social structure made of individuals which are tied by one or more specific types of interdependency, such as friendship, kinship, financial exchange, dislike, sexual relationships, or relationships of beliefs, knowledge or prestige.

- Weblogs (blogs) are easy and efficient ways to get personal viewpoints out into the marketplace. With easy-to-use blog software, anyone can create a professional looking blog in just minutes. Most marketing and PR people know about blogs, and many are monitoring what is being said about their company, products, and executives on this new medium. A significant # of people are also blogging for marketing purposes, some with amazing success. A blog is a Wed site that is created and maintained by a person who is passionate about a subject and wants to tell the world about his or her area of expertise. A blog is almost always written by one person who wants to communicate with the world.
- There are hundreds of social networks on the Internet, and they are all networks that can help a person Brand him or herself. The most well known and well liked, in my opinion, are Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Digg, and Delicious.

It has developed an open source web browser and a mobile operating system.

- A business-oriented social networking site founded in December 2002 and launched in May 2003 mainly used for professional networking. As of July 2009, LinkedIn had more than 43 million registered users spanning 170 countries.
- A free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts up to 140 characters displayed on the author’s profile page and delivered to the author’s subscribers who are known as followers.
- A social news website made for people to discover and share content from anywhere on the Internet, by submitting links and stories, and voting and commenting on submitted links and stories. Voting stories up and down is the sites cornerstone function, called digging and burying.
- A social bookmarking web service for storing, sharing, and discovering web bookmarks. The site is acquired by Yahoo and has more than 5 million users and 150 million bookmarked URLs.
- From this course, I have come to learn that although I used to think that social networking on the internet was useless and time consuming, it can actually really work to a person’s advantage. People can get their names out to the public and whether it be finding a job, or making new friends, social networks can open your name to the public and can further your career.
