Basics of Hootsuite

- 9. Open up a browser.
- 10. For this presentation, we will use Mozilla Firefox browser.
- 12. Press Enter key
- 13. This page will appear.
- 14. Click here to sign up
- 15. you can also sign up using Twitter, Facebook or Google+
- 16. You can click here as well to create account
- 17. For this presentation, we will sign up using Facebook account.
- 18. Key in your email address here.
- 20. Click Log In.
- 21. This window will appear.
- 22. Click on Okay to continue.
- 23. You will now see this screen.
- 24. For this presentation, we will choose ‘Okay’
- 25. You will now see this screen.
- 26. Choose Okay.
- 27. The hootsuite dashboard will now appear.
- 28. Let’s add other social network. Click here.
- 29. Let’s choose Twitter. Click here.
- 30. Click here to connect with twitter.
- 31. This window will pop-up.
- 32. Key in your Twitter email address here.

- 39. Now, let’s try to add a stream.
- 41. Streams are parts of your Social media account
- 42. that help further break down each tab in your hootsuite account

- 44. To add a stream, either click this button or

- 46. Let’s say we choose Scheduled Stream
- 47. Since there is no scheduled message yet,
- 48. it will display this.
- 49. Before we create a message, let’s install a hootlet first.
- 50. What is a Hootlet?
- 51. A Hootlet is a hootsuite extension that automatically takes content
- 52. you want to share and pops it into a message,
- 53. ready to go. No need to leave the web page.
- 54. Hover your mouse to the left section,
- 55. then click on Tools,
- 56. Under Extensions and Downloads, look for Hootlet
- 58. This window will pop-up.
- 59. Click here.
- 60. This window will pop-up.
- 61. Click on ‘Install now’
- 62. This notification will pop- up.
- 63. Let’s click on ‘Restart Now’
- 64. Once Mozilla Firefox is reopened,
- 65. You will now see this Hootlet icon here
- 66. Let’s now go back to your hootsuite account.
- 67. Before we proceed to schedule a message,
- 68. let’s add a tab for your facebook first.
- 69. Click on the plus sign.
- 70. Type in a name for your new Tab
- 71. Click here.
- 72. Select Facebook.
- 73. Click on ‘Connect with Facebook’
- 74. Enter your password here.
- 75. Click here to continue.
- 76. This window will pop-up.
- 77. Choose the facebook pages that you want to import.
- 78. Let’s choose the first one. Click here.
- 79. Click on ‘Finish Importing’
- 80. You will now see this screen.
- 81. Click the dropdown arrow to choose your personal facebook account.
- 82. Now, choose your personal fb account.
- 83. Now, it will look like this.
- 84. Let’s add 2 streams for facebook personal account.
- 86. It will now display your facebook timeline here.
- 87. Let’s also add Scheduled Stream.
- 88. Scheduled stream is now displayed here.
- 89. Remember that when you add social network accounts,
- 90. You will also find them here
- 91. Now, let’s use the Hootlet.
- 92. For instance, we go to lifehack.org website

- 94. Click on the Hootlet icon.
- 95. It will immediately put the link on the message box
- 96. Choose here the social network
- 97. where you want to send the message to.
- 98. You can either schedule to send the message
- 100. For this presentation, we will schedule the message
- 101. Let’s click here to schedule the message
- 102. Choose the date and time here
- 103. Put a check as well on this box.
- 104. Click Schedule.
- 105. You will now see the post in your scheduled streams.
- 106. This is for facebook.
- 107. This is for Twitter.
- 108. If you want to delete the post/message, click ‘X’
- 109. When composing messages, note that you will see
- 110. the number of characters allowed in Twitter and Facebook
- 111. Do not worry in putting in long links here
- 112. As there is a default option to shrink it
- 113. For example, we want to share the link below
- 114. Cut and paste the link here
- 115. Click Shrink
- 116. Now this is the link in shortened form.
- 117. You also have other options found here.
- 118. It lets you attach a file, schedule the message
- 119. add location, select targeting options, and select privacy.
