Following a successful career as Christie’s Head of Icons Department (2005-9) Maria Paphiti, a Greek-Cypriot Art Historian moved on to establish La Parole Divine. While at Christie’s Paphiti provided her expertise for valuations of icons and Orthodox artefacts featured in Christie’s sales worldwide. In August 2006, during The XXI International Byzantine Congress, she exhibited highlights from Christie’s upcoming Icon sale (November 2006), which was the first of its kind to take place for over a decade. The following year Christie’s Icons auctions under the leadership of Paphiti achieved a total in excess of £7 million, thus making 2007 the most successful year in the international
