2. Growing up in rural New Zealand in the early 80’s was a Great choice
by my soul!!!
...I became fully immersed into the ‘New Zealand Hippie’ sub-culture.
Subsistence farming otherwise known as ‘Hippie Communes’ were
on the rise in the sleeping giants … Hills that surrounded my home
town— Thames. The sleeping giants reached out to magnificent natural
shorelines
.
An idyllic setting for a move to the natural and freedom of creative
expression the New Zealand Hippie sub-culture catalyst.
…For me the excitement was in going to the opportunity shops,
buying up larger sized ladies under garments… Layering and adjusting
the styles then dressing them up with masculine boots… Enjoying the
pretty frills as i went about every day living as a subsistence farmer
‘New Zealand Hippie’.
Here I am back in my home town of Thames to incubate my own clothing
label… Maria Autridge.
I see the Hippies are still here, although we have all some way
normalized and other ways intellectualized… But my soul remembers
… And locked away in a workshop with beautiful natural fibers I born
this collection the ‘New Zealand Hippie Summer’ 2016.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I have creating it…

Qualified by 50 odd years of living...

Pretty feminine feel in harmony and
acceptance of the masculine.
