ROUTINE (5 minutes)
I say hello to the students and take attendance: “Hello everybody! How are you
today? Let’s see who is here and who is absent” As they get ready, I will quickly
take attendance, as I know all of their names. “Today we are going to continue
working with the same topic from last class? Remember? It is a three-letter-word
program.” I will wait for their answers (Work & Travel). “Great!”
WARM- UP (10 minutes)
“Now we are going to watch a video in which you can hear a few participants
experience with this program.”
I will say “This video is easy to follow since the people speaking here are not
native English speakers”. I will play the video and stop at the texts to give
students time to read, Iwill ask some of the students who do not participate often
to read it out loud for the rest of the class.

3. I would ask them if they know the meaning of the work “philanthropy”, if they do
not, I will say “Philanthropy means an unselfish concern for other human beings.
It refers to people who donate or do voluntary service to help others in need.” I
will pause as I see they need clarification on vocabulary.
PRESENT ATI ON (10 minutes)
“Ok, now I am going to introduce you to a very important part of the program:
the Job Fair. Do you know what that is?” I will wait for their answers and explain
“In a job fair, participants have interviews with potential employers in the USA.”
I will explain the terms employer (a person or business who hires one or more
people and pays them a salary) and employee (a person who was hired to work
for another).
DEVELOP M ENT (PRACTI CE and PRODUCTI ON)
Activity 1 (15 minutes)
Then I will hand out a short text in which students will read more about what a
job fair is. Again, I will ask students to take turns and read a paragraph each. I
will help them with unfamiliar vocabulary, I will write the words on the board
and I will give dictate the meaning so students can copy on their folders.
Activity 2 (20 minutes)
After that, I will refer back to the text and I will say “Now I am going to show you
an example of a resumé, I am sure you might have seen one before. Have you ever
done your own resume? Ok, if not, today will be your first time. This will be very
4. helpful for you in the future when you want to apply for a job or a scholarship.”
If they do not know the meaning of scholarship I will say “it is a gift of money to
help students with their studies”.
“I am sure you are familiar with traditional printed resumes, but have you ever
seen an interactive resume?” I will show them one example.
Interactive resume.mp4
Activity 3 (15 minutes)
Students will choose if they want to make a traditional resume or an interactive
one. I will write on the board the list of items students should include and they
start working on the draft:
- Full name (photo)
- Contact information
- Education
- Work experience / volunteer work
- Skills
- Interests
- References (if applicable)
I will also show them a website that provides resume templates that might help
them to make their own resume. “Here is a website that have templates for
different resume designs. You can choose one and start working from there, if
you choose to make a traditional resume.”
Website: https://www.coolfreecv.com/index.php
5. CLOSURE (5 minutes)
To finish the class I will say “Remember to bring your traditional or interactive
resume for next class.” I will write homework: finish resume on the board. Then I
will say: “Thank you for your great work today, see you next class to continue
working on this topic. Have a nice weekend. Goodbye!”
APPENDIX
Text
Work & Travel Job Fair
In a Work & Travel Job Fair there are live interviews with future employers from
the US (owners/managers of the restaurants, hotels etc.)
For employers, that is the best opportunity to meet their future employees and
explain to them what are their expectations, and for students it is an opportunity to
get to know in detail all demands before departure to the USA and to be safe when
it comes to their future job and stay in the USA.
The selection for the job fairs by the program organizers/employers is done on the
basis of resume, English language test and mark given due to the conversation
skills of English language. After that, employers/organizers select candidates and
call them to certain job fairs which they consider to be compatible with their
demands (each candidate will be invited to at least one job fair).
At the job fair based on the resume and through a direct interview, employers
choose those students that they think will best fit for job and offer them work
contract.
