Manveer Heir discusses ethical dilemmas in game design. He argues that most ethical dilemmas in games do not work because they rely on a simplistic black and white model of morality rather than the gray complexity of the real world. To design better ethical dilemmas, he recommends focusing on narrative, avoiding inconsistencies between story and gameplay, not telegraphing the consequences of choices, including obstacles, and making choices permanent instead of allowing them to be reversed through save games. This will make players live with their choices.

Player typology models classify different player motivations and behaviours. These models are necessary to design personalized games or to target specific audiences. However, many models lack validation and standard measurement instruments. Additionally, they rely on type theories, which split players into separate categories. Yet, personality research has lately favoured trait theories, which recognize that people's preferences are composed of a sum of different characteristics. Given these shortcomings of existing models, we developed a player traits model built on a detailed review and synthesis of the extant literature, which introduces five player traits: aesthetic orientation, narrative orientation, goal orientation, social orientation, and challenge orientation. Furthermore, we created and validated a 25-item measurement scale for the five player traits. This scale outputs a player profile, which describes participants' preferences for different game elements and game playing styles. Finally, we demonstrate that this is the first validated player preferences model and how it serves as an actionable tool for personalized game design.

It began as a 2 hr workshop,as a means to introduce students to game design practically & in quick time. The more i did these workshops, the more i realized that it not only allowed people to understand , but also apply design in a simple & easy manner.Every workshop ended with groups of participants coming up with small games, which an hour back was literally impossible. all that was needed, a few bits of paper, pen or pencil, dice & game bits and a whole lot of interaction, brainstorming, design thinking, creating game rules & testing playable game prototypes. The realisation of having designed something as unthinkable as a game, with literally nothing & having enjoyed playing it with freinds all of this & more within 2 hours, is an unbeleivable expereince to have.

In the thrilling conclusion to 2023, ransomware groups had a banner year, really outdoing themselves in the "make everyone's life miserable" department. LockBit 3.0 took gold in the hacking olympics, followed by the plucky upstarts Clop and ALPHV/BlackCat. Apparently, 48% of organizations were feeling left out and decided to get in on the cyber attack action. Business services won the "most likely to get digitally mugged" award, with education and retail nipping at their heels. Hackers expanded their repertoire beyond boring old encryption to the much more exciting world of extortion. The US, UK and Canada took top honors in the "countries most likely to pay up" category. Bitcoins were the currency of choice for discerning hackers, because who doesn't love untraceable money?

Created by Mozilla Research in 2012 and now part of Linux Foundation Europe, the Servo project is an experimental rendering engine written in Rust. It combines memory safety and concurrency to create an independent, modular, and embeddable rendering engine that adheres to web standards. Stewardship of Servo moved from Mozilla Research to the Linux Foundation in 2020, where its mission remains unchanged. After some slow years, in 2023 there has been renewed activity on the project, with a roadmap now focused on improving the engine’s CSS 2 conformance, exploring Android support, and making Servo a practical embeddable rendering engine. In this presentation, Rakhi Sharma reviews the status of the project, our recent developments in 2023, our collaboration with Tauri to make Servo an easy-to-use embeddable rendering engine, and our plans for the future to make Servo an alternative web rendering engine for the embedded devices industry.
