2. Understanding the concept of therapy
• Psychotherapy is any form of treatment for
psychological, emotional, or behavioral
disorders in which a trained person
establishes a relationship with one or
several patients for the purpose of
modifying or removing existing symptoms
and promoting personality growth.

5. Areas of high utilization and applicability include :-
•Anxiety disorders, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), phobias, panic disorder or post-
traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Body dysmorphia
•Mood disorders, such as depression or bipolar disorder
•Personality disorders, such as borderline personality disorder or dependent personality disorder
•Marital Discord, such as couple’s therapy
•Eating disorders & Sleep disorders, such as anorexia or bulimia, insomnia etc.
•Dissociative disorders, such as pseudosiezures, conversion disorders, dissociative identity disorder
•Somatoform disorders, such as Hypochondriasis & Somatization disorder
6. Areas with moderate application and utility of psychotherapy :- Mostly requires presence of insight &
receptivity from the client along with medication management.
• Delusional disorder, paranoid ideation, false believe system, magical thinking.
• Bipolar affective disorder, of extreme severity
• Extreme Cases of OCD with impulsive symptoms of self-harm tendencies.
• Major depression with multiple attempts of suicide
• Schizotypal & Schizoid personality disorder
• Substance abuse, inclusive of drugs, alcoholism, smoking etc.
7. Areas with very limited or no application/utility of psychotherapy :-
• Schizophrenia, and other form of psychotic disorders
• Psychotic disorders of Organic origin (Occurred due to neurological condition or
accidents)
• Alzheimer's, Dementia, Delirium
• Intellectual disability or mental retardation
• Austism Spectrum disorder

• Avoiding opinions & Offenses
• Setting realistic goals of therapy
• Setting healthy boundaries during the intervention, without
being biased about the client’s or their informant’s personal
intentions
• Assertiveness training
