2. INTRODUCTION
Driving while drunk is hazardous and drivers with high
blood alcohol content(BAC) are at expanded danger of
auto crashes, road way wounds and vehicular passing.
The main purpose behind this project is “drunken
driving and helmet detection”. Now-a-days, drunk
driving and not wearing helmet is the major reason of
accidents in almost all over the countries in the world.
Alcohol detector in engine/motor project is designed for
the safety of the people who is driving the vehicle. The
project is installed in the vehicle.
3. INTRODUCTION TOTHE EMBEDDED SYSTEM
The combination of hardware and software to perform some
specific tasks or applications is called as embedded system.
It is a dedicated computer-based system for an application (s)
or product .
An Embedded system has three main components .
1.It has hardware.
2.It has main application software.
3.It has a real time operating system(RTOS).
5. DESCRIPTIONOF BLOCK DIAGRAM
The components required for the project are:
1. Power supply
2. 8051 micro controller
3. Alcohol sensor
4. IR sensor
5. LCD
6. Buzzer
7. GSM module
8. Motor
6. Power Supply:
The above process is needed for the conversion of AC to DC
using rectifier and the ripples are removed using filter
circuit(capacitor).
Here we use 7805 voltage regulator.
8. Voltage Regulator:
A voltage regulator is an electrical regulator designed to
automatically maintain a constant voltage level.
Depending on the design, it may be used to regulate one or
more AC or DC voltages.
9. ALCOHOL SENSOR:
Grove - Alcohol Sensor is a complete alcohol sensor module for
Arduino or Searduino.
It is built with MQ303A semiconductor alcohol sensor.
It has good sensitivity and fast response to alcohol.
It is suitable for making Breath analyzer.
10. IR SENSOR:
An Infrared sensor is an electronic device, that emits
in order to sense some aspects of the surroundings.
An IR sensor can measure the heat of an object as
well as detects the motion.
11. 8051 MICROCONTROLER:
8051 microcontroller is designed by Intel in 1981. It is an 8-
bit microcontroller.
It is built with 40 pins dual in line package,4KB of ROM
storage and 128 bytes of RAM storage, 2 16-bit timers.
It consists of are four parallel 8-bit ports, which are
programmable as well as addressable as per the requirement.
An on-chip crystal oscillator is integrated in the
microcontroller having crystal frequency of 12MHZ.
12. L293DMOTOR DRIVERIC:
L293D IC is a typical Motor Driver IC which allows the
motor to drive on any direction.
This IC consists of 16-pins which are used to control a set of
two motors instantaneously in any direction.
L293D IC consists of two H-bridge circuits inside which can
rotate two motors separately.
13. LCD:
Liquid crystal display is very important device in embedded
system.
It offers high flexibility to user as he can display the
required data on it.
A liquid crystal display (LCD) is a thin, flat electronic
visual display that uses the light modulating properties
of liquid crystals (LCs). LCs do not emit light directly.
LCDs therefore need a light source and are classified as
"passive" displays.
14. GSM:
GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) is an open,
digital cellular technology used for transmitting mobile voice
and data services.
GSM uses a variation of Time Division Multiple Access
(TDMA) and is the most widely used of the three digital
wireless telephone technologies (TDMA, GSM, and CDMA).
It supports voice calls and data transfer speeds of up to
9.6 k bit/s, together with the transmission of SMS (Short
Message Service).
15. BUZZER:
Buzzers like the TMB-series are magnetic audible signal
devices with built-in oscillating circuits.
The construction combines an oscillation circuit unit with a
detection coil, a drive coil and a magnetic transducer.
Transistors, resistors, diodes and other small devices act as
circuit devices for driving sound generators.
17. APPLICATIONS:
1. “ALCOHOL DETECTOR AND HELMET DETECTOR
PROJECT” can be used in the various vehicles for detecting
whether the driver as consumed alcohol or not, while coming
to two wheelers whether the person is wearing a helmet or
not.
2. This project can also be used in various companies or
organizations to detect alcohol consumptions of employees.
18. ADVANTAGES:
1. The chance of loss of life and property due to drunken driving
is minimized.
2. Simple implementation leads to accurate results.
3. Can be implemented on various types of vehicles.
4. Less accidents, more safety.
5. Easy and efficient to test the alcohol content in the body.
6. Helpful to police and provides an automatic safety systems
for cars and other vehicles as well.
19. DISADVANTAGES:
1. Rider do not wear helmet in region where checking is not
done.
2. There is a tendency of the driver to wear helmet only where
they anticipate checking any take place, else they do not wear
helmet where no checking is done.
3. The vehicle can be turned on and stolen by passing the
ignition switch.
4. Testing alcohol content present in blood in each individual
rider in a big countries like India is almost impossible.
