But when it is all over, and you publish the lessons learned …….

3. My top three Post Project Peeves - 1
The project was delivered to scope, but it was behind
schedule and over-cost, so it was not a successful project!
What about measuring the business benefits and giving
credit where credit is due?
Yes, the project was delivered late but it has already saved us or
made us Blah Blah dollars in improved productivity gains
– The project was actually an astounding success!
Note. A worrying trend I have noticed lately is that PMO’s are not often
given the credit due for subsequent operational savings and become the
subject of niggardly cost savings / cutting exercises

4. My top three Post Project peeves - 2
The project was delivered okay, but adoption has been poor!
Sometime after a project you are talking to a couple of the
guys in the warehouse and one of them says, “Oh, they
introduced a new system but didn’t ask me, so I just
continue doing what I did before!”.
This is about managing the organisational change and following
through?
It was character that got us out of bed, commitment that moved us to
action and discipline that enabled us to follow through.

All too often you have delivered the project and everybody is
bought in when you suddenly see the project benefits
diminished because some manager is not prepared to spend
budget on training for his team into the new system processes or
change his teams working practices?
How often have your projects been frustrated by peoples
indifference or reluctance to take action?
In my experience, too many managers are fearful of taking
direct action as it usually means putting themselves at risk of
exposure to criticism.
Action speaks louder than words but not nearly as often.
