Isilon snapshots could be used to store VM snapshots. This could give performance improvements since ESX server doesn’t have to to go through the snapshot tree to resolve block accesses. The entire process could be automated with VM scripts which could be written wither in perl, VB etc. More information could be gathered from VMware developer forum portal. One important thing to note is that we do not provide advanced restore, hence in case customer would like to revert to previous VM snapshot , then it would have to be done by copying the contents from ifs snapshot directory.
