A solar tracker is a device that is used to orient photovoltaic (PV) panels or concentrating solar power (CSP) reflectors toward the sun, in order to maximize the amount of solar energy that is captured. A solar tracker typically consists of a mount that holds the PV panel or reflector and an electronic control system that is used to position the panel or reflector based on the position of the sun. There are two main types of solar trackers: single-axis and dual-axis. Single-axis trackers move the PV panel or reflector on a single axis, usually in the east-west direction, while dual-axis trackers move the panel or reflector on two axes, allowing for more precise tracking of the sun's position. Solar trackers are used in both utility-scale and small-scale solar energy systems to increase the efficiency of the energy production by allowing the solar panel to track the sun throughout the day.
