What are they?
Why do we need them?
How can we go about developing them?
 The learning process requires one to
distinguish how his/her mind operates.
 There is there fore that need to create a
personal environment that depicts his/her
personal thoughts and values.
 This presentation aims to illustrate how one
can go about creating his/her own personal
network and why is it important to do so.
 Personal learning networks go hand in hand
with Professional learning networks which are
described as:
Professional network services that comprise of
individuals who aim to enhance professional
interactions rather than social interactions, as
stated by (Ivanova 2009; 7). Even though social
networking sites are used to enhance those
professional interactions
online communities that allow users to create a web
presence, manage their identities, and stay connected
to friends and colleagues. Social networks like
Facebook, MySpace, and LinkedIn are among the most
popular destinations on the web, with millions of users
from around the globe signing up daily.
These sites are quickly growing from being mere
public profiles into platforms for communication,
creativity, advertising, and even commerce, by
Futurethink (2008)
 1. Technology, preferably new technology.
 This is because it is possible for them to
capture:
 data, information and “knowledge fusion”
 enhancing accessibility, productivity and
 innovative solutions
 research tools providing
 forming groups of personal and
 professional interests
Where connection runs from one end to the other
and planting information.

 This is because interactions between different
people contribute to the growth of an
individual person.
 Sharing ideas in ones comfort zone makes it
easy for them to think and express themselves
more, just as illustrated above.
 This makes it vital for professional networks to
form part of the learning process.
 A wider and productive society that is able to
communicate ideas.
 From this point on we can be enabled to:

 Help learners take control of and manage their
own learning.
 This includes providing support for learners to
set their own learning goals, manage their
learning;
 managing both content and process;
 communicate with others in the process of
learning and thereby achieve learning goals,
Ivanova (2009) argues.
 In other words where can they be found and
how does one register to be part of them?
The internet plays a big role in the formation of
those sites and the connection of individuals.

 This relates to personal learning networks and

  • 1. What are they? Why do we need them? How can we go about developing them?
  • 2.  The learning process requires one to distinguish how his/her mind operates.  There is there fore that need to create a personal environment that depicts his/her personal thoughts and values.  This presentation aims to illustrate how one can go about creating his/her own personal network and why is it important to do so.
  • 3.  Personal learning networks go hand in hand with Professional learning networks which are described as: Professional network services that comprise of individuals who aim to enhance professional interactions rather than social interactions, as stated by (Ivanova 2009; 7). Even though social networking sites are used to enhance those professional interactions
  • 4. online communities that allow users to create a web presence, manage their identities, and stay connected to friends and colleagues. Social networks like Facebook, MySpace, and LinkedIn are among the most popular destinations on the web, with millions of users from around the globe signing up daily. These sites are quickly growing from being mere public profiles into platforms for communication, creativity, advertising, and even commerce, by Futurethink (2008)

  • 12.  This is because interactions between different people contribute to the growth of an individual person.  Sharing ideas in ones comfort zone makes it easy for them to think and express themselves more, just as illustrated above.  This makes it vital for professional networks to form part of the learning process.
