77. The Beauty of Nature
by: Ma. Carla O. Vispo
Anton and his family lives in a small cottage near a
forest. One day, as Anton was walking around their garden, he saw
a beautiful butterfly. He run after the butterfly, hoping to catch it
but he failed to do so. With a sigh, he decided to lay on the grass
and watch the clouds roll by. Suddenly, a grasshopper jumped on
his nose. Anton was so scared that he stood up in a hurry, causing
the grasshopper to jump away. He started chasing after the
grasshopper, but alas, it jumped into a nearby pond.
78. Anton shook his head and decided to head back
home. On his way home Anton noticed a
sampaguita bush that is full of blooming flowers.
Anton tried to pluck some of the fragrant flowers,
but he didn’t notice there were red ants on its
stems. The angry ants bit his finger. It was very
painful that Anton started crying and ran to his
house. His mother asked him, "What is the matter?
Why are you crying?" "The ants in the sampaguita
plant bit my finger while I was plucking it.
79. It really hurts Mother," Anton whined. His mother
answered, "It is your fault that you got bitten in the
first place. You should not have tried to pluck the
flower. The flowers are meant to be seen and not to be
plucked. Besides, natural beauty should never be
harmed. We should be the one to take good care of
the nature we’re living in.” He felt guilty for what he
did. He then replied to his mother, "I will always
follow what you have just told me, mother. Thank you
for reminding me of my mistakes. I will make sure not
to do it again."
