Behavioural-Based Interview Questions - The most
common type of question that is asked is the
Behavioural-Based Interview (BBI) question. The
purpose of this type of question is to predict future
actions based on how an applicant performed actions
in the past. This is the best known predictor of
someone’s success in a job. An example of a
Behavioural-Based question is, “Can you tell us about
a time when you satisfied a difficult customer?”
Situational Interview Questions – The interviewee will
give you a job related task and how you handle it.
Technical Questions – Technical job specific
questions.

Doing very little research on the organization
Knowing very little about the job they applied
for
Speaking in generalities, when asked for
specific examples (e.g. “I do that everyday.”)
Not having thoughtful questions at the end of
the interview
Not picking up on the interviewees nonverbal cues

Research the department and organization you are applying for. It is
important that you have a good understanding of the department
and the position you are applying for.
Research who you will be interviewing with. Many can be found on
Linkedin.com.
Be concise in the response and include critical information
Research types of BBI questions online that may be asked. Look to
the job posting and corporate values for insight as to what may be
asked.
Practice with a family member, friend, or co-worker
The STAR approach to answering BBI questions helps many
applicants prepare and deliver a response.
 Situation or Task. What was the situation or task that you were faced with?
 Action. What are the specific actions that you took to handle the situation?
 Result. What was the result of the situation?
