2. UFTAA; AN INTRODUCTION
• It is an important organization of travel agent on world wide basis.
• Founded - Rome in 1966
• It is formed by the merging of two associations - INTERNATIONAL
FEDERATION OF TRVEL AGENCIES ASSOCIATION (IFTAA) and
UNIVERSAL ORGANISATION OF TRAVEL AGENTS ASSOCIATION
(UOTAA).
• The General Secretariat is in Monaco.
• Head Quarters - Belgium and Brussels.
3. UFTAA
• UFTAA started its operation as a confederation on 1st January 2003.
• It is a non-profit confederation of international scope.
• It comprises regional federations comprising 80 national associations.
• It is a world wide body representing the travel agency and tourism industry.
• It effectively represents travel agents and tour operators views on both
inbound and outbound travel by continuous dialogue and consultation with
other international organizations like International Air Transport
Association (IATA), International Hotel and Restaurant Association(IHRA),
International Union of Railways (IUR) and the International Road Union
(IRU).
• It works closely with other world bodies such as UNESCO, WHO etc. for a
sustainable and responsible tourism.
4. ADMINISTRATION
The annual General Assembly – The policy making body.
Board of Directors – Those elected from National Member Association.
The Executive Committee – Handles day to day activities and urgent
matters.
UFTAA World Congress – Advisory board of federation.
Individual members, suppliers of service and regioanal, national and
international public authorities.
5. AIMS
To act as the negotiating body with the various branches of tourism
and travel industry on behalf of its members and also in the interest
of public.
To ensure for all travel agents through their national association the
maximum degree of cohesion and understanding, prestige and public
recognition, etc. from legislation and legal point of view.
To offer to its member all the necessary professional and technical
advice and assistance in matters concerning their trade.
6. MISSION
UFTAA’s mission is to be an international
forum where matters affecting the world
travel industry are addressed, representing
and defending the interests of incoming and
outgoing tour operators, travel and tourism
agencies before the governmental bodies,
suppliers and other entities of international
scope. It also aims at strengthening its
members image and enhances the world
travel and tourism industry and a
sustainable tourism.
7. FUNCTIONS
• To unite and consolidate the federations of travel agents a national
association and to globally enhance the interests of their members.
• To represent the travel agents activities before various world wide bodies,
governmental authorities and suppliers.
• To work towards the adoption of measures that will ease travel for the
consumer and to offer services to its member federations.
• To be an investigation and information center supporting the member
federations work and to offer information for technological development.
• To organize a world congress of travel agents and other meetings necessary
to the exchange and transmission of knowledge.

The IATA-UFTAA foundation courses jointly offered by IATA
with UFTAA are the most complete travel and tourism
training.
Its programs designed for those who desire to seek IATA
qualification that can help in accreditation of travel agencies.
UFTAA is a good connect for those seeking to establish IATA’s
authorized training centers.
10. UFTAA ID CARD
• It is an important TRAVEL INDUSTRY PASS (TIP) for every travel,
tourism and related industry professional, with UFTAA membership.
• It is well recognized and an absolute identity for leaders on the
move.
12. CONCLUSION
UFTAA protects commercial and other interests of
those travel agents who are associated with it. This
federation would find more travel agents joining its
fold. It would emerge as “savior organization” of travel
agents around globe. In short travel agents and tour
operators are nothing or they cannot work properly
without the support of UFTAA.
