2. OVERVIEW
Our films genre is a teen horror
The basic synopsis is: that a group of friends try to enter a cave site but disturb a
supernatural being which then picks them off one by one .
We didn’t come across many films with our idea but similar ones were; Scream
(Craven, 1996),The Wicked (Winther, 2012), Death Note (Wingard, 2017) andThe
BlairWitch Project (Sanchez, Myrick, 1999).
As our film is both a teen movie and a horror movie, it will mix together the
conventions of the two genres to create one which will attract our target
audience.
3. KEY CHARACTERS
We are in the process of developing key characters but as our film is a hybrid
genre of teen and horror, it will feature conventional characters from both teen
films and horror films.
The conventional teen movie characters that we will have are; the misfit, the
drama queen, the clown, and the popular one.
The convention horror movie characters that we will have are; the female victim,
the hero, the final girl, the villain, the hysterical characters and the non-believer.
Some of our characters will double up on roles such as the drama queen character
also being the hysterical character.
4. PROMOTIONAL CAMPAIGN
The promotional campaign will digital and physical marketing techniques. It will
use websites such asYouTube, Facebook, Instagram as our main digital sites to
market on to reach our target audience of teenagers and young adults, this is
because these sights especiallyYouTube and Instagram are uses by a large
population of teenagers and young adults. Using these digital sites should be
affective as they are used to market many other films and are affective at
promoting the media content.
Physical marketing techniques will include magazines including our film, posters,
banners, etc. These are affective as they can be put in positioned of popularity or
where a large amount of people will see it.These are still effective as they can be
positioned on the side of buildings or on large billboards on the side
of motorways, etc.
5. TEASER IDEA
When coming up with our teaser trailer idea's we looked at other
teaser trailers in our genres in order to get inspiration and a better
understanding of what teasers in this genre look like. So by doing this
we can stick to the codes and conventions of this genre when
creating our trailer. So from what we have looked at from previous
teaser trailers they usually will start with a slow build up and showing
the characters and the tension will start to build up after this we will
most likely see the villain or problem for the film.
We are planning to start our trailer by introduce the main characters
having a conversation and they will be discussing a 'cave' which they
have all heard different stories about. Then they decide to go there
and then once they are there loads of strange things begin to happen
and they all get scared and try to get out.All of them will make it out
alive but slowly get picked off one by one from something as we sill
show quick shots of this happening.
6. POSTER IDEA
For our poster we wanted to feature
both a character and a main icon of the
film; the triangular stone structure
which is the entrance to the caves
where part of the film will take place.
We want our poster to be minimalistic
as to not give too much of the narrative
away, along with this, we will
incorporate horror elements into the
poster to attract out target audience
and establish the genre to them.
7. MAGAZINE IDEA
Our magazine idea will be similar to our poster idea as we want to create a brand
identity for our film in the teaser, poster and magazine.
It will use the idea of the eye with the triangle in the middle but it will also follow
the house style of the chosen magazine. This may mean that we have to alter it
slightly to suit both our brand identity but also the magazine style.
8. TARGET AUDIENCE
Our film is skewed at an age group of 15 to 25 year old people, with no specific gender in
mind, our film is aimed to both male and female audiences.
We thought that as it’s a teen horror the issues involved will be teen related so tis opens
the teen market place, along with this because it has horror elements, the audience will
have to be mature enough for it.This will lead on to our promoting styles, we will platform
on social media sites as these are popular among a young teen audience.
In 2014, 15-24 year old people made up the largest proportion of the UK cinema audience,
at 31% - information from BFI Film Forever.
A wide range of genres appealed to women, whereas men were drawn to films with a
strong action element. Our film will feature action elements so this allows us to have a
more open audience here.
Our film is not aimed at a particular class only a particular age group, allowing a larger
audience to be attracted.
