6. The greenhouse effect is a process that
occurs when gases in Earth's atmosphere trap
the Sun's heat. This process makes Earth
much warmer than it would be without an
atmosphere. The greenhouse effect is one of
the things that makes Earth a comfortable
place to live.
7. Without the “greenhouse effect”, the Earth
would not be warm enough for humans to live.
But if there is an increase in the amount of
carbon dioxide and some other greenhouse
gases in our atmosphere the greenhouse effect
becomes too strong, and can cause Earth's
atmosphere to trap more and more heat it
could make the Earth too warm, causing
problems for humans, plants, and animals.
8. Causes
burning of fossil fuels
deforestration
increase in population
farming
industrial waste and land fills
9.
10. Consequences
change of climate and global warming which
threats the sustainability of life.
effect on the ozone layer
Melting of polar ice caps and glaciers
Projected rise of sea level
disruption of water cycle
More droughts and floods.
More terrible storms.
Many more hot days.
11. Consequences
effect on the oceanic climate
Forests may disappear and reduction of
biodiversity.
problems of drinking water supply, sanitation,
drought.
Increase in heat stress mortality and diseases.
More diseases like malaria and dengue
challenges to agriculture and food supply
12. Control of Greenhouse Effect
Alternate sources of energy are to be used
Advanced and efficient technologies for
reducing emissions from fossil fuels.
Afforestation and reforestation on a large scale
Water logging should be avoided
Reduction of the use of CFC
