in the first 10 months of 2016, domestic cashew enterprises in the country had imported 913,000 tons of raw
cashew nuts, worth $US 1.4 billion, an increase of 17% in volume and 39% in value compared to the same
period of 2015. In which, most imported cashews are from Africa.

4. Indian Market:
According to Cashew Export Promotion Council of India (CEPCI), in 2015:
• Annual Raw nut production = 8.5 lakh tonnes + import 8.5 Lakh tonnes.
• After Processing, the yield is 23 per cent, which is 3.75 lakh tonnes.
• Total Export : 1.25 lakh tonnes.
• Domestic Consumption: 2.5 Lakh tonnes.

6. Cashewnut Imports to India:
• Raw Cashewnut is imported to India from different countries like Tanzania, Gambia, Côte d’Ivoire,
Indonesia, Nigeria through sea via cochin, Mangalore, Kolkata and Tuticorin ports.

11. Issues and challenges w.r.t Export Potential of
India
• Export of Cashewnut is in a decreasing trend for Last few years.
• Reduction in Export incentive from 7% to 2%.
• High Processing cost due to increased wages & less Adaption to
Mechanization.
• Reduction in Women Labours from 4.5 lakhs to 1.5 Lakhs
