Pre-lesson: Pupils refer to textbook page 23. Teacher asks
pupils if the characters are from the past, present or the
future. Pupils share their answers.
Lesson delivery:
1. Teacher asks pupils who was Samuel Pepys. Pupils read the
text in the box at the top of the diary and share their answers.
Pupils point to Samuel Pepys in the textbook.
2. In groups pupils, read the diary to find out what is
happening in each picture guided by audio 1.9.
3. Teacher writes a few questions for pupils to answer based
on the diary. What are the two women doing in the first picture?
What is Samuel Pepys doing? Who is the woman in the third picture?
What is happening in the last picture?
4. Teacher asks other questions such as; What did he need the
candles for? What does a watchman do? What were the houses made
of?
5. Pupils refer to the vocabulary panel and look at the words
before and after the words in bold to help understand the
context. Pupils write down the meaning in their exercise
books.
Post-lesson: Pupils discuss the meanings of the words with
the class.

Pre-lesson: Pupils reread the story from the textbook page
22-23.
Lesson delivery:
1. Pupil refer to textbook page 24. Pupils number the events
orally while teacher writes on the board.
2. Pupils refer to Activity 2. Pupils copy the questions into
their exercise books. Pupils answer the questions by referring
to the text in page 22-23.
3. Teacher and pupils discuss the answers.
4. Pupils refer to Activity 3. Teacher guides pupils to compare
life in the past with now using a table. Teacher guides pupils
to compare life in the past based on the text and their life
right now. Pupils discuss in groups and share the answers
with the class.
5. Using the points in table, pupils are guided to write
sentences to compare. Teacher demonstrates the first
sentence.
6. In pairs, pupils work on their sentences.
Post-lesson: Pupils share their sentences with another group
for a review.

Pre-lesson: As a whole class, pupils play a little activity to see
who guesses the verbs the fastest. Pupils refer to Activity
working with words in textbook page 24.
Lesson delivery:
1. Pupils refer to vocabulary box at the top of page 26 in
textbook. Pupils guess the meaning of the words and check
their answers by reading the sentences in textbook page 135.
2. Pupils refer to Activity 1. Teacher asks pupils who they think
the man is in the picture. Pupils share their answer.
3. Audio 1.10 is played for the pupils. Pupils listen and say the
dialogue. Pupils are divided into two groups to role play the
dialogues.
4. Teacher explains the usage of the Wh- questions and we
use them to ask when we require any information.
5. Teacher writes the questions Did you use to study maths?
Did you use to live in the countryside? Teacher shares that
these are the yes/no questions.
6. Pupils refer to activity 2 and change the dialogue using the
given phrases. Pupils share their answers.
7. Pupils refer to Activity 3 and are guided to make questions
using the given clues.
Post-lesson: Pupils ask the questions prepared to their

pupils that they are given 25 seconds to look at the pictures.
Then, pupils write down the things and events in the picture.
(Ex: houses made of wood, candles)
Lesson delivery:
1. Pupil refer to the picture in Activity 1. Teacher asks pupils
what do they see in the picture. Pupils share their thoughts.
2. Teacher explains to pupils that we use ‘used’ to explain
about past situations that are not true now or things we did
regularly in the past but don’t do now.
3. Pupils identify the negative sentences (didn’t).
4. Pupils refer to Activity 2. Pupils copy the text into their
exercise books and complete it.
5. Teacher and pupils discuss the answers.
6. Pupils refer to Activity 3 and share what they see in the
pictures.
