That’s what this book is for! We’re going to
learn about seven different languages that
almost have the Bible. We’ll learn some neat
facts about their countries, and then we’ll pray
for them. So are you ready?
Let’s start praying!
is just another
word for talking with God. We talk to lots of
people every day, but talking to God is different
because we can’t see him. We don’t hear his
voice the same way as when we talk to our dad,
mom, brothers and sisters or friends but we do
hear him through the Bible.
Prayer is important. And it’s really special that
we can talk to God whenever we want! Plus,
our prayers can really change things. God
loves hearing our prayers, and he wants to
answer them. Sometimes he answers them like
we ask, and sometimes he answers differently
— because he knows what we need better than
we do!
Did you know that we can pray about anything
and everything we want? It’s true. God loves
us and cares about what’s important to us. We
can pray for ourselves or for people we know,
but we can also pray for people we don’t know
— like people all around the world who need
the Bible in their own language.

I want to tell you
about Sam. He’s a kid
just like you and me, but
he has a really cool story
to share!
Sam was just 5 years old when
heandhisfamilyfirststartedprayingforpeople

Island.TheRapaNuididn’thaveaBibleintheir
language,soSamdecidedtoprayforthem.He
askedGodtosendsomeonetohelptheRapa
NuigettheBibleintheirownlanguage.
One day Sam’s family got a letter
from a friend who worked withWycliffe. He told them
that someone was starting to work with the Rapa Nui
language!This news was really exciting, but it also
surprised Sam and his family.They hadn’t told their
friend that they were praying for the Rapa Nui people!
Your prayers really do matter!
Sam’s family
A while later, Sam got a
letter from the Bible translators on
Easter Island.They told him that they
became interested in going to Easter
Island at the very same time he
began praying.
Isn’t that amazing? God heard Sam’s prayers and answered them. And the coolest part
is that we’ll be able to pray for the Rapa Nui later!They almost have the NewTestament in their
own language now, but they still need our prayers.
So remember, your
prayers really do matter.
Whether we’re 5 years old or 95,
God hears all of our prayers because
he loves us.

Did you know?
Rain is important in Burkina
Faso because many people
grow things for a living!
Around 90 percent of people
grow cotton or different kinds
of food (like peanuts, corn and
rice) for their job. So you can
see why water would be so
important here.
Many people don’t have a
lot of money, but since they
grow things, they often trade
with one another — and that
means that they don’t always
have to use money to get what
they need. Hey, would you
be willing to trade me your
crackers for my chocolate chip
cookie at lunch, Mack?
The main food that people eat
is called tô (or written “toh”
in English). It’s kind of like a
paste made from millet (that’s
a small kind of seed) or corn
flour. They eat it when it’s just
a little bit warm, and cover it
with a sauce to make

Burkina Faso’s Fast Facts:

it taste yummy. One special food in Burkina Faso is a kind of
caterpillar. People eat it because they think it’s delicious!
There are around 6,000 people who speak Kaansa, and soon
they’ll be able to learn all about Jesus in their own language.
What an exciting day that will be!
You can pray …
The Kaansa people are really close to getting the New Testament in their
language. Right now the translation team is checking everything first,
looking for spelling mistakes or grammar problems (sounds like your classes,
doesn’t it?) before they get it printed. It’s a lot of hard work to make sure that
everything is correct because they don’t want to find any mistakes after it’s
printed. You can pray that the team will be able to find anything that’s wrong
and that they’d be able to print the Bibles soon. And hopefully they’ll have a
party in December 2015 to celebrate the New Testament in Kaansa!

Day 2: Rapa Nui; Easter Island, Chile

Chile’s Fast Facts: Did you know?
Easter Island is part of the
country of Chile, but it isn’t
attached to South America at
all. It’s 2,300 miles away from
the main part of the country,
way out in the ocean! I guess
that’s kinda like Hawaii for
the United States, since
Hawaii is a long way from the
rest of the country.
Easter Island is really small
and not very many people
live on it. The island used
to be called Rapa Nui, the
language that most people
still speak there. You actually
might have heard of Easter
Island before, because it’s
known for giant statues
called moai that are found
on the island. The moai are
big heads and shoulders that
were carved from volcanic rock
a long time ago. They’re all
around 13 feet tall, and they
weigh 14 tons (that’s 28,000
pounds!).

And at one time, there were over 900 different moai all across
the small island. That’s a lot of rock carving!
No one really knows why people made the moai. Some believe
that they were probably made to honor ancestors, chiefs or other
important people, but there isn’t any written history of the island.
So we might never know why they were made!
There are less than 3,000 people who speak Rapa Nui, but they
still need to know that God speaks their language. God wants
everyone to know him, and it’s important that all people groups
get the chance to read the Bible for themselves.
You can pray …
The Rapa Nui people are getting the New Testament soon! The translation
is all done, and now the team needs to make sure that everything is ready
for it to be printed. You can pray that the translation is
checked quickly and that there aren’t any problems.
That way, it can be printed and dedicated in a
celebration for everyone who speaks Rapa Nui.

Day 3: Central Siberian Yupik;
ALASKA
(UNITED STATES)
RUSSIA
Did you know?
The United States and Russia
are two different countries
and part of two different
continents, but they’re
only separated by 58 miles!
The Bering Strait is what
separates them, and in the
middle are two islands — the
Big and Little Diomede. In fact,
these islands are at the exact
middle of the Bering Strait!
That’s why Central Siberian
Yupik is spoken in both
Alaska (one of the 50 states
in the U.S.) and Russia —
because the two countries
are so close to each other!
It’s spoken mostly on St.
Lawrence Island, which is
part of Alaska even though it’s
closer to Siberia (that’s part of
Russia). That means people
in two different countries
will be learning about how
much God loves them in their
own language when this New
Testament is done!

People living here are called Eskimos, a name that is used in
English and means “eaters of raw flesh.” But they like to call
themselves Yupigyt, which means “authentic people,” or “Yupik”
in English. The Yupik are famous for their sea hunting, and
they use the meat and fat of whales, seals and walruses for food.
Traditionally, they would dry walrus and seal meat into strips that
they could save and eat later. Doesn’t sound very delicious to me,
but they probably wouldn’t like some of my favorite foods either!
A little more than 1,000 people speak Central Siberian Yupik in
both the United States and Russia, and soon they’ll be able to
read all about Jesus and what happened in the New Testament.
You can pray …
The translation team is working on making sure the New Testament is perfect
before sending it to be printed. As they check everything, they make sure that
there aren’t any mistakes and that everything looks nice for when it’s printed.
You can pray that they’d finish checking soon and that the New Testament
would be printed as beautiful books. You can also pray that the books would
make it safely to their island, that way the Central Siberian Yupik can finally
read the New Testament in their own language.

Day 4: Eastern Arrernte; Australia
Australia’s Fast Facts: Did you know?
Australia is a very popular
place for people to immigrate
to (that means a lot of people
from other countries move
there to live). So Australia has
a big mix of lots of types of
food — including many types
of “fusion cuisine.” That means
they like to mix foods from
two different places to come
up with new flavors. Australia
also has some more common
foods that many people there
enjoy — Vegemite (that’s a
salty, chocolate-looking spread
for toast and crackers), Milo
(chocolate milk mix), Anzac
biscuits (that’s oat biscuits
sent to soldiers overseas during
World War I), and damper (a
type of bread cooked in the
ashes of a campfire).
The ocean around Australia
is filled with lots of different
marine animals (that means
animals that live in water).
There are 4,000 different kinds
of fish, 500 kinds of coral (and
that’s just in the northern
reefs!), 50 kinds of marine
mammals, and a lot of different
kinds of seabirds.

You’ll also find at least 378 kinds of mammals (furry, warm-
blooded animals), 828 kinds of birds, 300 kinds of lizards, 140
kinds of snakes, and even two kinds of crocodiles. Australia is
famous for animals like kangaroos and koalas.
But Australia isn’t just known for its beautiful wildlife. Did
you know that Australia is one of the top countries for sending
missionaries to other parts of the world? That’s pretty exciting!
We’ve all been commanded by Jesus to go to every part of the
world (check out Matthew 28:19). And soon, people who speak
Eastern Arrernte (that’s around 2,400 people) will be able to read
that verse for themselves.
You can pray …
Last fall the Eastern Arrernte New Testament (and parts of the Old Testament)
was sent to the printer! Soon the Arrernte will be able to read God’s Word in their
own language. You can pray that the books would arrive safely as they travel by
boat, and as they’re shared in the community. You can also pray for the people
as they plan a party and celebrate having a lot of the Bible that they can read
for themselves. And for people who can’t read, the books have been recorded
so that they can listen instead. Soon the Eastern Arrernte people will be able to
understand the Bible in their own language!

Day 5: Soli; Zambia
Did you know?
Zambia is a little bigger than
Texas, and it’s all landlocked
(that means it’s surrounded by
land and not by any oceans) by
eight countries. Even though
it’s not surrounded by water,
Zambia is still home to a huge
waterfall — Victoria Falls, one
of the seven natural wonders
of the world! People in Zambia
often call Victoria Falls “Smoke
That Thunders,” and lots of
people come to the country to
see this beautiful sight.
There are another 17 awesome
waterfalls in the country to
visit too. Zambia is one of
the safest countries in the
world to visit, and Zambians
are some of the friendliest
people you’ll ever meet! There
are a lot of reasons to visit
this beautiful country. Lots
of people come to see the
waterfalls and the animals.
Almost one-third of the country
is used as a home for wildlife,
with 20 national parks that areantelope

made just for the many animals to have safe homes. And as you
can see, taking care of animals and nature is very important to
Zambians. That’s why there are so many national parks!
People come and take walking, driving, canoeing and other
kinds of safari adventures, where they get to see all the beautiful
and exotic animals that live in Zambia. If you go, you can see
antelopes, elephants, giraffes, rhinos and so many other animals
too. It’s an awesome experience!
Zambia is known as a Christian country, but there are still quite
a few languages that don’t have any part of God’s Word. Soli is
one of those languages, and Soli speakers (more than 34,000
people) don’t have any of the Bible printed in their language yet.
You can pray …
Legends (stories that are passed on from generation to generation) are really
important to the Soli people. Some of their legends talk about other religious
beliefs that have been in Zambia for many years — beliefs that don’t follow
what the Bible says. You can pray that as people hear about God and what
the Bible says, they’d come to know and love Jesus. The New Testament isn’t
printed yet, but the translation team is testing how it sounds in Soli by sharing
it with people and seeing if it makes sense to them in their own language. Pray
that the Soli people would learn about God and want to follow him.

Did you know?
Mexico is part of the Pacific
“Ring of Fire” — an area
with lots of volcanoes and
earthquakes. A cool fact is
that you can find the world’s
third biggest pyramid, the
Pirámide del Sol (or “Pyramid
of the Sun”) here!
Mexican food is eaten all
over the world. There are
three types of food that are
in almost every Mexican
dish: corn, hot peppers and
beans. Corn is used in a lot of
different ways, but one of the
most famous ways is when it’s
made into a tortilla. People fill
tortillas with meat, cheese or
vegetables, and that’s a taco
or quesadilla! Mexicans use
more than 100 different kinds
of peppers — some that can
be big and sweet, and some
that are small and very hot.
In Mexico, the biggest meal
of the day is served in the
afternoon between 2 and 4
o’clock. There are three or
four courses: soup; rice or
pasta; meat or chicken (if

people can afford it), eaten with tortillas and refried beans; and
dessert. Usually they’ve only eaten a small breakfast of coffee
and fruit, and had a snack of a warm tortilla or bread roll in
the middle of the morning. No wonder this meal is so big! Then
people eat dinner between 8 and 10 at night, and that’s usually
just sweet rolls, coffee and milk. It’s all delicious!
Did you know that Mexico is the first country where Wycliffe
started translating the Bible? It’s true! Lots of work has been
done, but there are still almost 100 languages that need the
Bible. And as they’re translated, people will be able to understand
how much God loves them in their own language. San Vincente
Zapotec is one of those languages, and soon almost 3,400 people
who speak that language will be able to know all about God’s love
through reading his Word!
You can pray …
The San Vicente Zapotec New Testament was sent to the printer at the end
of 2014. You can pray that the books will arrive safely back in their village so
people can read God’s words for themselves. They’re also making plans for a
party so they can celebrate this exciting event! As people wait for the New
Testament books to arrive, they’re able to watch a video of the Gospel of Luke
in the San Vicente Zapotec language. Lots of people are already enjoying that
and learning about Jesus in their own language. It’s a very exciting time!

Did you know?
Cambodia’s weather is tropical,
with the rainy season taking
up a lot of the year. There are
monsoons (those are big rain
storms in Asia) that sometimes
cause flooding in the country.
In fact, the Mekong River often
floods during the monsoon
season and there’s so much
water that the fields nearby
can be flooded for four to seven
months every year. That’s a lot
of water!
One of the things Cambodia
is famous for is the Angkor
Wat, a big temple that is
believed to have been built
for King Suryavarman II.
From the ground to the top
of the tower it’s 699 feet tall!
It’s believed that it took 30
years to build this beautiful
place. If you’re standing far
away, the Angkor Wat just
looks like a big building of
stone. But when you get up
close, you see that it has a lot
of different towers, porches,
courtyards, and so much
more. It’s amazing! But back
to other facts about Cambodia.
Day 7: Central Mnong; Cambodia

Buddhism

Mekong River
The main language is called Khmer, and nearly everyone speaks
it. Also, most are Buddhist — a big religion in Asia. In many
parts of Asia, it’s dangerous to be a Christian, but in Cambodia
it’s safe; people are allowed to let their friends and family know
that they worship Jesus. As more of the Bible is translated into
the languages of Cambodia (like for the 70,000 people who speak
Central Mnong), we can pray that more people will come to love
him and let their families know about the wonderful news that
Jesus loves them too!
You can pray …
More than half of the New Testament is printed for the Mnong, and more than
1,000 booklets of other parts of Scripture have been sold! People are learning
how to read the Bible, and they’ve also made special praise songs with their own
traditional music style. How exciting!You can pray that the translation team would
be able to finish the rest of the New Testament, and that more people would
learn how to read the Bible in their own language.You can also pray for people in
Cambodia who may need things like clothes and food — that God would provide
as he promises in Matthew 6:31-32.

Well kids,we’ve learned about seven different
languages, and it’s exciting to think that these languages are
getting the Bible for the first time. God doesn’t just speak English
— he speaks every language in the whole world!
But just because you’ve finished this book doesn’t mean that you
have to stop praying! You can:
1. Pray for people without the Bible.
There are still lots of people who don’t have the Bible (around 1,800 languages)!
You can pray that more and more people would get the Bible in their own
language, and soon.
2. Pray for the translators.
Translating is a lot of work, and it’s important that the Bible makes sense in every
language.You can pray that translators would get wisdom from God as they work.
3. Pray for more workers.
There’s still a lot of work to be done before all the languages in the world have
the Bible (there are around 7,000 languages total). You can pray that more people
will want to help!
And of course you can pray however else you want. God always
hears our prayers, so never give up talking to him! He loves
listening to you. Don’t ever forget that.
But before we go, we thought you might like to try out this
language activity for yourself. Maybe you’ll grow up to translate the
Bible for a language that doesn’t have it yet. Give it a try and see
what you think!
