This document discusses new uses of physical space in libraries, including collaborative spaces, quiet study areas, and technology integration. Several libraries are highlighted that have renovated spaces for cafes, computer pods, group study rooms, and learning commons with services like math labs and research help desks to foster new collaborations and provide a variety of study environments for students. Images show the renovated library spaces aimed at these new services.

We have a few images of the recently refurbished 18th Avenue library at Ohio State. This is the former Science and Engineering Library.I want to thank MerisMandernach for these images from Ohio State. Meris is Head of Reference Services, University Libraries Research Services.
Over winter break three of the five floors in this library were refurnished to give the space definition and provide zones for different types of learning. Here is a photo of the basement. These students are using a mediascape table which allows multiple uses to connect their computers at once for collaboration.
The fourth floor is a quiet floor and was included in the refurbishing project. The focus was on individualized study either at tables or comfortable chairs.
The second floor houses the music and dance library. Couches as well as group study space was added.
