“The Sign”
Adapted from Luke
2:8-12
When Jesus was born, there were shepherds in the
fields and were keeping the night watch over their flock.
The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of
the Lord shone around them. They became afraid but
the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I
proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all
the people.
Adapted from Luke
2:8-12
For today in the city of David a savior has been
born for you who is Messiah and Lord. And this will be a
sign from you: you will find an infant wrapped in
swaddling clothes and lying in a
manger.

The Sacraments
– Signs of God’s Love
God sent Jesus to earth to save us. Jesus is
no longer physically with us, but God
continues to show His love through other
signs. One of these signs is the Church.
The Church
is called the sacrament of Christ
because it is the sign
of Jesus’ presence on earth. Through the
Seven Sacraments, the
Church makes us feel the presence of
Jesus.
The Sacraments
–are signs established by Jesus to give grace.
The word sacrament came from the Latin word
“sacramentum”, which means “a sign
of sacred”.
Sacraments are symbols of God’s
love.
The Sacraments
Sacraments are symbols of God’s love. God is a
loving God. He cares for each one of us. He is
constant in His love for all of us. God continues to
give us the graces and the blessings we need to
live a good spiritual life. Jesus is the ultimate sign
of God’s love.

The story takes place in a meal called the
Last Supper of Jesus with His apostles.
It is a sign both of thanksgiving and
sacrifice.
A sign of thanksgiving as this recalls one of
the most important feast of the Jews, the
Passover. The Passover was the time
when they were freed from slavery in Egypt.
Jesus celebrates the Passover in Jerusalem
with His disciples. Jesus was born and
brought up Jewish, so it is natural that He
should want to remember this festival with
His disciples
Jesus began the Passover in the usual way,
but during the meal He made some
important changes
He broke the bread and passed it to his
disciples saying,
“Take and eat, this is my
body.”
He offered them the cup of wine, saying
“Drink from it, all of you. This is my
blood, which seals God's covenant,
my blood poured out for many for
the forgiveness of sins.”
The bread is the body of Jesus. He is
offering Himself as a sacrifice for the many
HOLY WEEK
It recounts the final days of Christ’s
life, as well as his death, burial, and
resurrection. During this week,
Christians remember the important
events of Christ’s final days, His death
and resurrection.
Holy Week begins with
Palm Sunday. It is a
celebration of Jesus
fulfilling the prophecy
from Zechariah with His
triumphant entry into
Jerusalem. We celebrate
Christ as King on Palm
Sunday.
It is properly called
“Thursday of the Lord’s
Supper,”. This day
commemorates the
institution of the
Eucharist during the
Last Supper.
Formally known as the
“Friday of the passion
and death of the Lord,”
this day marks the
crucifixion of Jesus
Christ. It is a day of
sorrow and mourning.
Today, Christians
observe Good Friday
with services
that reflect on Christ’s
final hours and the
Stations
of the Cross. On this
day, Catholics often veil
the
cross in purple.
a celebration that awaits Jesus’
resurrection. It starts at evening
of Holy Saturday/Black Saturday.
The celebration starts with the
darkened Church, which
represents sin. Fire is lit outside
the Church to represent how light
dispels the darkness. The fire is
blessed and then priest lights
the Paschal Candle. The Paschal
Candle represent Jesus as the
Light of the Word.
