2. NOUN
 This part of a speech refers to words that are
used to name persons, things, animals,
places, ideas, or events.

 Common–car, pizza parlor, TV series
 Concrete–folder, sand, board
 Abstract- happiness, grudge, bravery
 Proper–Volkswagen Beetle, Shakey’s Pizza, Game
of Thrones
 Count– kitten, video, ball
 Mass–kilo, cup, meter,rice, flour, garter
 Collective–faculty (group of teachers), class
(group of students), pride (group of lions)
Countable and Uncountable
Nouns
 In English grammar, countable nouns are
individual people, animals, places, things, or ideas
which can be counted. Uncountable nouns are not
individual objects, so they cannot be counted.
COUNTABLE: can be expressed in
plural form, usually with an "s." For
example, "cat--cats," "season--
seasons," "student--students."
UNCOUNTABLE: usually cannot be
expressed in a plural form. For
example, "milk," "water," "air,"
"money," "food." Usually, you can't say,
"He had many moneys."
2. PRONOUN
 A pronoun is a part of a speech which functions as
a replacement for a noun. Some examples of
pronouns are: I, it, he, she, mine, his, hers, we, they,
theirs, and ours.
 The largest slice is mine.
 We are number one
3. ADJECTIVE
 This part of a speech is used to describe a noun or a
pronoun. Adjectives can specify the quality, the size,
and the number of nouns or pronouns.

and Uncountable Nouns

 We often use too before much and many. It means
‘more than necessary’
There are too many cars on the road.
 We use so rather than very before much and many in
affirmative clauses to emphasise a very large quantity
of something.

 When we want to make comparisons connected with
quantity, we use as much as and as many as:
Try and find out as much information as you can.
You can ask as many questions as you want.

 This is the most important part of a speech,
for without a verb, a sentence would not
exist.

5. ADVERB
 Just like adjectives, adverbs are also used to
describe words, but the difference is that adverbs
describe adjectives, verbs, or another adverb.

Adverb of Manner are used to tell us the way or how
something is done: gracefully, beautifully, softly,
terribly, heavily, easily
greedily codiciosamente

Adverb of Time- “when” something happens. Yesterday, tomorrow, always
Adverbs of Frequency
How often…?
 Do you go to the movies?
 Do you listen classical music?
 Do you read the newspaper?

Adverb of Place–this tells something about “where”.
Everywhere, there, Abroad, Across, Ahead, Back,

6.PREPOSITION
 This part of a speech basically refers to words that
specify location or a location in time.
Examples of Prepositions: above, below, throughout,
outside, before, near, and since
 Micah is hiding under the bed.
 During the game, the audience never stopped
cheering for their team.
7.CONJUNCTION
 The conjunction is a part of a speech which joins
words, phrases, or clauses together.
 Examples of Conjunctions: for, and, nor, but, or, yet,
and so (FANBOYS).
 This cup of tea is delicious and very soothing.
 Kiyoko has to start all over again because she didn’t
follow the professor’s instructions.
 Homer always wanted to join the play, but he didn’t
have the guts to audition.
8. INTERJECTION
 This part of a speech refers to words which express
emotions. Since interjections are commonly used to
convey strong emotions, they are usually followed by
an exclamation point.
 Ouch! That must have hurt.
 Hurray, we won!
 Hey! I said enough!
