2. My research topic is...
My research topic goes into detail about the effects that excessive use of
social media can have on the productivity of people. These effects are relevant
to people of all ages, since almost anyone with a smartphone, computer, or
tablet is able to create an account, and log into any social media website. The
research I plan on doing involved referencing sources that support my point of
view. Between articles explaining the topic in detail, and experiments that
provide reliable data. Through this, I plan on learning how this issue can be
resolved.
3. History of social media
During the 20th century, technology was evolving very rapidly and with the
creation of super computers, websites like Six Degrees and Friendster were
among the first social media outlets. With the growing popularity of these sites,
many new and improved sites would continue to be created, popular ones like
Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and Snapchat standing out and being used by
people all over the world.
4. Individuals involved
● The first individual that comes to mind who would definitely be involved in
this topic, would be the well known Mark Zuckerberg, being the creator and
face of Facebook, the most popular and largest social media website in
the world.
● Another individual who could have an influence on social media usage in
America, could be our president Donald Trump, being considered the
biggest individual leader of our government and using social media often.
● Another individual, could possibly be Selena Gomez, having the largest
social media following in the world with 133 million followers on
instagram.
5. Questions I have about my topic
● What is the most efficient way to balance social media while retaining a
productive mind?
● Does social media have different effects on different types of people?
● What is the range of different negative effects this can have on a single
person?
● Can this issue ever be resolved on a worldwide scale?
6. Viewpoint about social media I disagree
with
An article by Optistaffing states that statistics show how workers are more
productive now than ever before. Although studies showing the effects of
social media on this productivity are mixed. Some show that using social
media as a short break from work helps workers recharge and prepare them for
their next task. Although this may have some truth to it, in the larger scope,
from past research I found I believe excessive social media use can have
effects on one’s work process even when not using it.
