Dominican Starfish Foundation August update
1.
2.
3. We would like to thank Tamara Fackrell
(Director of Change the World Foundation and
her family and friends for painting the murals
on the Youth Upliftment School.
4. Thank you so much to Dan and
Denise Anderson and family
for donating and delivering
food packs to 70 families in
San Rafael de Yuma (near
Punta Cana)
5. Thanks to generous
donors, we were
able to donate
school supplies and
uniforms to 40
children in the
community of
Baraguana. (We
helped in other
communities as
well).
6. In collaboration with Save the World Foundation and Dominican Starfish Foundation, we were
able to supply backpacks and school supplies at our Starfish Center in Javillar to many children.
7. The kitchen is ready for the new school year
at the Youth Upliftment School. Thanks to
LDS Charities for donating the small and large
appliances and other kitchen items. Thanks
to Fernando and Miguel and team for
renovations. Thanks to Sheila Layton and
Kathy Jones and others for food supplies.
The school will be having a breakfast program
for the younger children and lunch for the
older ones. Many children who attend this
school have very little to eat at home.
8. We completed the construction of the home
for Jordy, Maria and family. Thanks to many,
many donors. They are extremely grateful!!
9.
10. Raidely is 12 years old and
helps with so many
community things. She is
training to be the future
director of the foundation.
Her mom Jhohaira also helps
with many foundation
projects. They were living in a
rented place.
We started raising money
in June for this family for
Amarilis’s birthday. We
also started building at the
very end of June. We
finished the home in
August. It is beautiful and
they are so grateful.
Thanks to all our donors!!
11. Fundraising was started for Angelica in June. She is a
senior citizen living in the community of Javillar.
When people choose to sponsor a home, she has
always been overlooked because she doesn’t have
children. Single people need us too. Angelica’s house
is being eaten by termites and the beams are tied
together with plastic. Thanks to generous donors who
saw her need and came to the rescue.
We hope that the home will be complete in
September. She is so grateful. Thanks to all our
donors!!
12. We have started on the home for Elias.
Elias's health problems began 13 years ago in 2009.
One day he got up and couldn't walk. He went to the
doctor. They found some herniated discs in his back.
A very unsuccessful surgery followed leaving him
unable to walk. Elias then lost his job and could no
longer care for his family. Neighbors and friends
have been helping. These same neighbors and
friends have pleaded with Dominican Starfish
Foundation to help him. The foundation of his home
is very unstable and could crumble at any time. He is
grateful for the help!
13. We posted earlier this month about 4 families who
have been working hard to help themselves. We are
happy to have found a sponsor for Jomira and family!
14. Yomira
Yomira and her husband both have small jobs.
His job is 7 hours away near Punta Cana. They
are trying very hard to be self-sufficient but
really need help. This is a very sad case because
the 4 children are living with relatives who beat
them daily. They are always covered with bruises.
The parents are heart-broken but have no
options. Thank you to Wade Payne for
sponsoring this family to complete their home.
So far we have completed the roof.
15. Anairys
With Jack and Louise ZoBell at the
birthday celebration she helped with
in March 2022
Anairys started building her home in 2014. She has
been trying for many years and would love to move
from her rental home to her own place. She has one
son at home and 3 grandchildren that she is caring for.
She is a wonderful volunteer in the community and
helps with so many foundation activities.
We are looking for a sponsor (or group) to help her
finish her home!!
16. Yamika
Yamika is a young single mom who grew up in Maggiolo where we built our first school in
2012. She was then a young girl of 15 living with her grandma.
Yamika has been asked to leave her rental place. She has this much finished on her home. She
has done this through very hard work on her own. She no longer has a job and has reached
out to us for help. $3000 US would be enough so she could live in the unfinished space.
17. Pally & Family
Pally has 3 sons. 2 live with their
grandmother as she does not work
and can't support them as a single
mother. The father of Wederlin (a
student in our Flamingo English
school) is a motorcycle taxi so there
is not much money, and he doesn't
live with her... Her father started a
house for her next door about 10
years ago but passed away before he
could finish it.
