5. We have worked together with Pastor Frank Pasqual and his family
for many years. This year they brought joy to many children by
hosting a Christmas party at a country-side school!
6. Every year Dominican Starfish Foundation helps share Christmas with
the children in the impoverished community of Baraguana. Thanks to
our donors and dedicated volunteers there, especially Dr. Clarens!
7. The kindergarten children in the Javillar school were thrilled to get
toys for Christmas! Thanks Jose and Sheyla for hosting!! A special
thanks to Doug and Charlotte Palmer who donated many of the
toys that were given this year!!
8. We helped with an annual Children’s Christmas party in our
Starfish Center in Javillar. This is hosted each year by Leuris, a
wonderful lady in the community who works many hours getting
donations and preparing an amazing event for the children!!
9. Another annual event is our senior’s Christmas party. Our director,
Amarilis, loves to help these less recognized citizens of Javillar. This year
this event was made possible by generous donors from North Carolina.
10. One of the biggest blessings Dominican Starfish Foundation provides is
employment for many construction workers. This year there were over
60 that worked full or part time. We honor them each year with a
Christmas party, again hosted by Amarilis! This comes complete with
food, entertainment, raffles, prizes and more. We love our workers!!
11. Money for Christmas food packs this year was donated by a generous
couple in North Carolina! They were delivered in many different
communities. These packs were given in Llanos de Perez. Thanks so
much to Alise and Raul for there kind efforts to put these together.
12. On December 23, Steve Olsen and family took time from their
Christmas vacation to buy and deliver food packs in the community of
Higuey which is near Punta Cana. Thank you!
Thank you!
13. PEANUT BUTTER DRIVE FOR THE YOUTH
UPLIFTMENT SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM
Two groups, one in Canada and
one in the USA, did a Peanut
Butter Drive to help with the
lunch program at the Youth
Upliftment school. It will be
delivered by humanitarian service
groups traveling in the new year.
14. Megan McKendry and her family from British Columbia put together over 50
hygiene packs and several school packs. They will be traveling with us to the
Dominican in January. We so appreciate their hard work and contributions!!
15. For Christmas this year, 50 families in Javillar received home health
care packs donated and put together by Tessa in Wahnam, Alberta!
The families were thrilled to receive these. They are first aid kits, plus!
16. Our dedicated assistant director, Jose Vasquez delivered shoes from
our center to children in a country school.
17. While in the Dominican we
met Lan, Rocio and family.
They were living in very a
very difficult situation.
Funds for their home were
donated Tamara Fackrell’s
Save the World Foundation.
Construction on their home
began in October. Their
home was finished on
December 7 by the
Dominican Starfish
Foundation construction
team under the director of
Amarilis and Segundo.
18. While in the Dominican Republic in October, Valora
Palmer from Maryland met Angelo Santana at church
on Sunday. After learning about the living conditions of
his family, the next morning at breakfast she asked if
she could raise funds for the family to have a home.
“Of Course!” Construction was started on November
11. The funding was finished on Christmas day!! The
final funds were donated by 11-year-old Sophie! Their
house will be finished in January of 2023.
19. It is truly a blessing when we find someone to
sponsor a home for a family. This was the case
with Roxane and Walt Quaranta from North
Carolina. After attending the opening of one
of our homes, they spoke with Amarilis about
our home-building projects. They offered to
help this family with 4 little children. Their
middle children are twins. The 6 of them
share one bedroom. The home was started on
November 19th.
20. Adonis works at the Lifestyle
Resort as a security guard. He
makes less than $200 a month.
They have a little girl and just had
a new baby girl November 5.
They live in a very difficult
situation. They are so poor. His
wife lived with her mother, and
he lived with his mother because
neither place had room for both
of them.
Their home was completed on
December 10th.
Construction started
November 5..
21. This home for Juliany and Ravel and family was
started on November 28th. The home has moved
forward quickly and will be finished in January 2023.
22. We purchased a small home for Odias who lived in terrible conditions.
This was in exchange for his land which will be added to the small
parcel of land that we had to build for Jackson and Dinora with the
orphan children. We will be fixing the little home to be like new!!
You can barely see the shack where
he lived in the back of this photo
with Jackson and Dinora and family.
23. For the 12 Days of
Christmas, we completed
the funding needed to
finish the home of Paly
and her family in Llanos
de Perez. After a huge
month of fundraising in
November, this was not
in our plans. Somehow,
we (with the help of so
many) made it happen!!
24. This community center was built by a
foundation called “Hip Hop Heals”
directed by Don Sawyer from Harlem.
Special thanks to Tonya Greiner from
Pennsylvania for donating the land and
to Heidi Smith from Calgary who has
helped so much to pay for hair and nail
courses, and to set up a salon to
employ local beauticians.
25. We want to give special congratulations to Clarens Descorias. He
graduated on Christmas day as a doctor. He has been helped by
several people through the years but lately it has been Chad and
Tonya Greiner from Pennsylvania who have helped him through his
residency and more. Thank you!!
We met Clarens in 2014. He has been
working to help his people in the
community of Baraguana. We have
delivered hundreds of food packs there
as well as clothing and other items and
helped in other ways as well.
We have seen his growth, his drive and
his concern for his people.
CONGRATULATIONS DR. DESCORIAS.
