The document summarizes the work and accomplishments of the Dominican Starfish Foundation in April. They installed cabinets and windows in accommodations for humanitarian workers. With donations, they hired an assistant director to help with education programs. They are 80% funded for Dominga's new home and the Pimenter family home is nearing completion. A cistern was built to improve water access at a youth school. Medical aid was provided to two young men in an accident.
3. Work continues on the second level of
our center where we will have
accommodations available for those
traveling to do humanitarian work. The
kitchen cabinets have been installed,
security bars are in place, and we have
replaced the aluminum windows with
sound-reduction glass windows.
4. Again, thanks to the Sala family for
donating the furnishing and
creating this beautiful space. Our
first guests arrive in June.
5. • Through generous, monthly donations from
several of our guests who have visited the
Dominican Republic with us, we have been
able to hire an assistant director who will be
helping with our educational programs at the
center and helping Amarilis with her many
duties as director of the foundation in the
Dominican Republic. We welcome Jose
Vasquez and have already been thrilled with
his contributions!! We have known him for
many years and really appreciate his integrity
and desire to help others!
Welcome Jose
6. We are 80% funded for Dominga’s new home.
We promoted several campaigns during the
month of April. Thanks to all who have donated
and who will help us finish raising the funds!!
Dominga’s home
will be built on
top of her
mother’s home.
Our goal is to
have funding
complete in May.
7. The roof is on, parging is currently being done. The
family will be in their home in May.

9. • Lula has 5 children
and is living in great
poverty in Javillar in
the Dominican
Republic.. Ruby Best
and her family from
Utah have sponsored
her to have a new
home. It will be
completed in May.
• We have had a
challenge with
skyrocketing prices
for construction
materials and
scarcity of the items
we need. Lula’s
home is nearing
completion. The
roof is on, the
parging is finished
and the floor is
complete.
10. We have been working to have a better
water system at the Youth Upliftment
School. Because water is only
delivered by truck twice a week they
were continually running out. Thanks
to the Juul-Larsen family from
Denmark, our team has been able to
pour a large cistern on the property so
that a consistent supply of water will
be available to the school.
11. We were able to purchase the
appliances and other items needed for
the kitchen in the school through
donations made to us by the Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Soon there will be many very hungry
children having a hot lunch every day!
12. • Our education directors,
Sheila Layton from Canada and
her sister, Kathy Jones from the
USA continue to work on
finding educational sponsors for
the children attending the
Youth Upliftment School. Now
there are 118 of 141 children
sponsored. They have also
helped to collect uniforms,
books, school supplies, and
many other items for the
school. Thanks to all of our
sponsors!!
Blessing children with
the gift of Education
13. We still have hungry people coming to ask for food every day. Though we currently don’t
have many additional funds for food, we are blessed to have several monthly donors who
are helping many specific families in great need. These are in several different communities.
Our distribution center is restocked with many items brought by our donors. People in
need come daily to get clothing items for their families.
14. This month we were able to
provide funds to help with
medical care for two young
men who were in a serious
accident during the Easter
week. They have a long
road to recovery ahead.
15.
16. • While delivering
food packs in San
Rafael de Yuma, our
volunteer Joan (Johan)
Perozo discovered Mr.
Felipe. He sent
photos asking for help
with a bed and fan.
• For the 8th
anniversary of our
foundation, we raised
the funds for that.
Thank you to all the
donors!! You can see
the joy in his face for
this wonderful and
unexpected gift.
17. • In January 2021, we
introduced the Fackrell
family from Utah to
Dominican Starfish
Foundation. They have
done so much to help in
many areas.
• Recently, they
created their own
charity called “Save the
World Foundation”.
Their focus is on helping
people be able to get
married. Costs are so
great even to get a
license. With their help
and with donations from
other kind people, we
were able to host the
wedding celebrations
for Fernando and
Vickyana on April 3.
Fernando is one of our
construction managers.
Their reception was in
our beautiful Starfish
18. • We are thrilled at
some of the great
things we already know
will be happening in
May!!
• Thank you for your
continued support and
donations.
Thanks for helping to make
April a great month! May is
going to be awesome!
