2. Initial Idea #1
Song: “Girl On Fire” – Ella Mae Bowen
Structure: Narrative
Synopsis:
After a “heated” argument with her boyfriend, she breaks up with him.
After the break up the girl gets incredibly depressed and becomes isolated.
This causes further tension between her and her family. After another
disagreement, the girl packs her bags and her guitar, and runs away in the
middle of the night, taking a taxi into the countryside. With no money or
help, she camps out in order to experience the simple lifestyle. After a
while there she begins to adapt, while doing this, she is learning and
growing a tough skin as well as her own philosophy. She is singing the song
during this time. By the bridge of the song, she comes to realisation of how
careless and selfish she’s been, so she runs off into the night, finally
coming across a car, she waves in front of it to get its attention. The scene
then switches to her returning home and hugging her parents. It ends with
her thinking over what she has learned during her time alone.
3. Initial Idea #2
Song: “Girl On Fire” – Ella Mae Bowen
Structure: Abstract
Synopsis:
This video’s aim is to convey the emotion, feelings and impact of loss, war
and pain. There will be a few different settings, most of them nature
based. The artist will be wandering through woods, fields and eventually
reaching a graveyard where they will place some flowers. Another setting
will be in a garden with a bonfire as the background. The artist will be
wearing a simple white dress to represent the undeserved pain of the
innocent. There will be extra shots of various bits of nature including trees,
raindrops, grass, wildlife etc. There will also be a consistent shot of a
burning flame which will serve as a motif and symbol for the music video
to represent it back to the title and the meaning. There will also be a
performance setting of various instruments being played, like guitar, violin
etc, this will appear now and then during the music video.
4. Initial Idea #3
Song: “Girl On Fire” – Ella Mae Bowen
Structure: Performance
Synopsis:
This video will be a full performance of the song. It will be filmed in a
theatre and lights will be used to represent the theme of fire and angst.
My artist will be centre stage and I will use multiple camera angles to make
it more professional. I will also include various musicians that will be
filmed individually too. This is the least complex of all my ideas. To go
along with the performance part of the video, I will also film various shots
of candles being lit as this is symbolic of the song’s title and meaning. As
this only includes the performance aspect, the video will serve very much
as a speech, like I mentioned in my lyrics analysis. The artist is encouraging
people to fight for what they believe in in the lyrics of the song so I felt this
arrangement was relevant. It is similar in a way to the director’s cut of
Miley Cyrus’ music video for “Wrecking Ball” as the entire song is a close-
up of her singing with strong emotion.
