1. WHAT IT IS
Assumptions is a show about the last year of high school, set against the backdrop of Tampa
Bay. It follows the lives of seven seniors, Mia Ho, Colton Grey, Tabby Faber, Brady Walters,
Regan Martinez, Ash West, and Conner Smith as they deal with the issues of school and the
challenges of trying to figure out who they are and what they want out of life.
Assumptions is a show about being wise, but also naïve about the world. It deals with the
consequences of one’s actions as they try to make the right decisions when every turn they
make seems to be the wrong path to take.
Assumptions is a show for every student in the school system. A show that everyone, no matter
who they are or where they are from, they can relate to the obstacles that plague the teen
years and the challenges of Hell which is in the form of a brick building… high school.
In addition to addressing the friendships and romantic relationships of the characters, the show
also emphasizes other up-to-date issues such as rape, gay rights, teenage alcohol use, sex,
racism, parental control, bullying, and teenage pregnancy.
THE SHOW’S THEMES
We all have problems.
Like Beverly Hill 90210, Dawson’s Creek, One Tree Hill, and Secret Life of an American Teenager,
Assumptions deals with high school and the drama that unfolds during this difficult time of life.
Being seniors, in-between not a child and not yet an adult, these characters feel like they are on
their own, with no security blanket to hide behind as they are one step away from the big, bad
world that’s waiting for them outside. These students come to realize it doesn’t matter who
you are or where you’re from everyone has problems that plague their lives. They find they
have a million choices that need to be made, and they all have consequences that affect not
only themselves but everyone else around them.
Secrets
Everyone has secrets, one’s that seem could upset the balance of the whole Bayshore world.
Friendship
High school wouldn’t be high school if it weren't for that one friend who would do anything for
you. In Assumptions, they learn that sometimes friends are their only family.
Relationships
The guy that steals your breath away with every sight of him. The girl that gives you
goosebumps and stutter for words. These are feelings that most adolescents feel at some point
in their lives in high school. The students at Bayshore are no different. They laugh, cry, feel love
and heartbreak, all over that one person who can shake their world upside down and twist it
