The United States Chess Federation (USCF) is the official nonprofit membership
organization in the United States for chess players and supporters of the game;
membership is open to beginners and Grandmasters alike. Founded in 1939
when the American Chess Federation merged with the National Chess
Federation, the USCF is dedicated to the promotion of chess as a hobby, a
competitive sport, and a way to improve society at large. It is the governing
body for chess in the US and represents the US in the World Federation or
FIDE. The USCF maintains separate titles and rating systems for its members.
One must be a member of USCF to participate in USCF-rated events.
