Lyndon B. Johnson served as president from 1963 to 1969. During his presidency, Johnson advocated for civil rights and his "Great Society" domestic agenda but his presidency was dominated by the escalating Vietnam War. He did not seek re-election in 1968 due to declining public support for the war and other issues.
