1. How will the GRP experience further your professional development? (250 word
essay)
My strong interest in Germany started with my practical experience. As an intern at
Ernst & Young I audited Airbus, a company managed in Germany. After communicating
with managers from the company I learned a lot about the German corporate culture. I
also learned about their current situation regarding business and economic obstacles.
After dealing with Airbus I developed an interest in European countries. Therefore, when
I heard about the GRP program, I chose to go to Germany and the Czech Republic
without hesitation. It really is a great opportunity to travel to another country and gain
firsthand experience in international businesses. This opportunity will give me an
introspective view of other cultures. As an international student from China, it is not very
easy for me to go to developed European countries like Germany. The Katz Business
School gives me a fantastic opportunity to travel to places where I would not have had
the opportunity to go. Currently, I am applying for a summer internship with Siemens in
China, I think this trip to Germany and Czech will let me experience the real European
business culture. If I am able to participate in the GRP program I will gain invaluable
experience to help communicate in a globally diverse business world.
Regarding academics, I am studying Individual Tax and Corporate Tax courses
familiarizing myself with the American tax policy. Both America and Germany are
capitalist countries, I can learn the tax differences between the United States and
European nations. I will learn tax policy in Europe to do research based on this
experience to come up with more constructive comments in my future study and work. I
can also use this experience to help build critical thinking skills regarding tax policy
around the world.
