1. Ipoh Railway Station
Ipoh Railway Station is situated in the
state of Perak, Malaysia. It known as
the “Taj Mahal” of Ipoh, it is an
impressive landmark combining the
Gothic and Moorish architecture. The
Ipoh railway station was initially meant
to be a hospital and used before the
20th century as such before being
turned into a station. The building was
designed by Arthur Benison Hubback,
and it was opened in 1935 to replace
previous station that built by wooden
with atap roof. The building also
houses a station hotel called the
Majestic Hotel, however was closed in
year March 2011.
Ipoh railway station is located at the
South-Western side of capital city of
Ipoh, Perak. It serves as the main
railway terminal for the state under
Keretapi Tanah Melayu, offering KTM
Intercity services, ETS services, as well
as handling cargo trains.
Ipoh Railway Station was built to
cater to the transportation demands
of the growing tin mining industry at
that time. The original first Ipoh
Railway Station was just simple
wooden structure with attap roof
was built in Ipoh, 1897.
In 1914, construction of a
second station and hotel to replace
the first station began; followed by
shortage of materials and labour
during World War I, the station was
only completed in 1917. A double
storey station building was
constructed platforms, offices,
tickets counter, a restaurant, bar and
Majestic Hotel. The hotel was
originally offered 17 rooms and
upgrade to 21 rooms by 1936 for
rooms demand.
Arthur Benison Hubback, who is
a British colonial architect who
introduce Indo-Saracenic or
Moorish style to Malaya. He
designed at least 25 buildings in
Malaya and many of these are
now historical building.
The Ipoh Railway Station & Hotel
was the last building designed by
AB Hubback before going home
to England in 1914 and he has
never returned to post-war
Malaya again.

Architecture of this building was
the result of hybrid between
Neo-Classical of Europe and
Mughal architecture of India. It was
a popular architectural style in late
19th and early 20th century in
colonial India and was carried to
British colonies in Southeast Asia by
British architects.
Ipoh station's exterior is more
distinctively Western in design.
Opened pointed and arched
pediments, extensive use of
engaged columns, and a large
central dome over the porte-
cochère(coach gate).
