Knowing how to increase website traffic is
essential if you want to expand your customer
base and therefore your income. Someone once
said that if you plan to stand still you will go
backwards.
Stage 1
What are the sources of the traffic you have coming
to your site now?
You must have, in place, some kind of tracking whether it be Google's free Analytics service or a
more sophisticated system that will involve payment. Without this you are stumbling around in the
dark and in danger of wasting time with traffic sources that do not work or not giving enough
attention to those that do. Even worse, if you are paying for traffic you may be spending without an
adequate return.
Stage 2
Obviously you must first stop any campaigns that you are running to increase website traffic that
are not working.
Now turn your attention to the stuff that is working and upscale! I would like to add in passing that
when you are reviewing any possible method for increasing traffic flow one of the main
considerations must be, 'if this works as a test, can I scale up the campaign exponentially?'
Having identified the traffic sources that are working for you, no matter how modestly, increase
your efforts ten fold.
For example, let's say that you are enjoying some traffic as a result of articles that you have written,
then write, at least, one new article every day. Place it with the top ten article directories, put a link
to it from your Facebook and Twitter accounts. Put it on your blog and register it with a pinging
service. In short give to as many online services that you can come up with. In all cases, of course,
there must be links back to your blog or squeeze page.
The same applies with video, remember YouTube is not the only video hosting service. If you are
stuck for things to make a video about why not make video versions of your articles?
I've chosen the above two examples because, apart from your time, they are free methods of traffic
generation.
Paid Traffic
Although your approach to scaling up a paid traffic campaign should be similar to the above you
must be doubly sure that this form of traffic really is producing a profit for you. Don't, to begin
with, go crazy with your paid campaigns. If you spent twenty five to fifty dollars on a successful
test then invest one hundred dollars, then two fifty and so forth, checking all the while that this is
money well spent.
The Bad News
This isn't so much the bad news as the truth. To increase website traffic
mainly involves work, hard work. If you are prepared to make a huge effort
in spreading your creations to every corner of the web on a daily basis then
you will see a return, assuming that your website and offer are of high
quality. I cannot, of course, predict what the scale of the return will be.
Once you have established a traffic source that works you must regard it as
the entrance to the gold mine, work at it like crazy and the nuggets will
come your way.
