2. WHERE IS IT?
• Macedonia is a country in the Balkan peninsula in
Southeast Europe
• It’s one of the successor states of the former
Yugoslavia
• It was declared independent in 1991
• It became a member of United Nations in 1993
• The capital and largest city is Skopje

3. MAP

4. MACEDONIAN
• It’s the official language in Macedonia
• Macedonian is a South Slavic language
• It’s spoken as first language by around two
million people
• It’s an official minority language in parts of
Albania, Romania and Serbia.

5. FLAG
• The national flag of the Republic of
Macedonia depicts a stylised yellow sun on a
red field
• With eight broadening rays extending from
the centre to the edge of the field.

6. RELIGION
• The majority of the population
belongs to the Macedonian
Orthodox Church.
• It was declared autocephaly in
1968
• The Macedonian Orthodox
Church Macedonian is the body
of Christians who are united
under the Archbishop of Ohrid
and Macedonia

7. CULTURE
• Folklore can be described as traditional art,
literature, knowledge, and practices that are
passed on in large part through oral
communication and example
• Folklore is integral to everyday life

8. KOPAČKA (FOLK DANCE)
• Kopačka is a tradicional Macedonian Oro, folk
dance, from the region of Pijanec, a range of
mountains in the eastern part of the Republic
of Macedonia
• The dancers are holding their belts with left
hand over the right one and begin their dance
in a position of a half circle.

• Macedonian cuisine reflects Mediterranean
and Middle Eastern influences and share
characteristics of other Balkan cuisines
• The relatively warm climate in Macedonia
provides excellent growth conditions for a
variety of vegetables, herbs and fruits.
• Macedonian cuisine is also noted for the
diversity and quality of its dairy products
