1. Analysis of CD cover
Bondax are an electronic music duo consisting of two English musicians Adam Kaye and
George Townsend. Although they are not drum and bass, they’re music sounds similar to
the drum and bass genre as it is also a very technical genre. The font on the front cover of the
album is best described as simple, capital letters, spaced out, yet the name of the album is in
italics, this connotes that the music might be simple and chilled out as the lettering signifies
a kind of balance. There is no dominant image, just the background is swirls of gold paint
looking art work which links to the name of the album which is Gold. The colours are gold
and blue/green these connote a down to earth feeling which may suggest that they’re music
is down to earth and chill to listen to. As the title of the album cover is Gold this signifies
wealth, status and confidence. This suggests that the artists are proud of their music and
have called it gold because they represent their music as gold because it is so great. The
record label is Rentless Records, this connotes that Bondax are a successful music duo as
Rentless records parent figure are Sony Music Entertainment which is a big corporation in
the music industry. Bondax fits into the genre of electronic, this is signified through their
music as they use a lot of technical elements because the music is made electrically through
the use of various instruments and equipment. It is signified through their CD cover as it
typically has an arty background, they don’t tend to feature the artists themselves as the
music is made by them but through technical equipment not the artists singing themselves,
this is shown through all 5 of the CD covers I have researched into of the drum and bass/
electronic genre. Attitudes and values associated with this genre are relaxed but energetic
chill out music and they usually have summery music videos and are bright and happy with
people laughing, smiling, and having fun. The target audience for this CD cover is young
people who want to listen to interesting music. The cover is appealing to this audience
because it includes lots of swirls of colours and this suggests that the music in the album will
be different and unique and young people aspire to be unique and different.
