2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
1.
2. My media product the music magazine would represent teenagers aged 12-20. The reason why my magazine
would target this age group is because the genre I chose for my magazine was Indie and this genre is
targeted more towards the younger teenagers than older people.
Also the particular social groups would be stereotype to wear t-shirts or designer tops such as Hollister, Jack
Wills etc., skinny jeans and vans. By displaying the genre of music through the clothes, people who haven’t
seen the magazine before can tell what magazine it is without looking through it.
3. I stuck to the stereotype of Indie teenagers by displaying it in what my
models are wearing. For example on the front cover of my magazine
my model is wearing a blue short sleeved shirt that has anchors on it.
this reflects what an Indie individual would wear because they would
wear something simple but unique and would properly wear it with
black skinny jeans. This was the original that I took in the photo studio
but I didn’t want to include the skateboard in the front cover because
it didn't’t link to music but it did suit the genre Indie. So I decided to
crop the photo cutting out the skateboard and it then become and
medium close up.
Also on the contents page on of the photos
displayed on there the model is wearing blue
vans, this shows that I have researched about the
genre of music and showed that in the clothes my
models are wearing. In this photo I have stuck to
the stereotypes with the shoes the model is
wearing and the skateboard he is riding. From
looking at this photo people could tell what genre
it is based on because the Indie look has particular
items that makes them stand out from the other
genres and they can be identified easily.
4. Also when I researched more into the genre
Indie I started looking at the different aspects of
the genre such as I looked at the typical things
that Indie teenagers would do. For example I
found that most Indie teenagers take up
skateboarding as a hobby, so I decided to
include this in my magazine. This was also
displayed through the photos I included on my
contents page. Also they would play instruments
such as the drums and guitar, and in my double
page spread I displayed what I had learnt in my
research and had my model hold a guitar for the
photo. Props I think are very important to my
target audience because they fell that the props
they have reflect who they are and shows that
they are like without getting to know them.
This photo of my model which I have presented in my double page spread, reflects well who my magazine
represents. The reason I think this because the photo of the model shows every aspect of an Indie individual.
For example the clothes the model is wearing is an example of what an Indie individual/ artist would wear. The
shirt is an everyday piece of clothing that an Indie person would wear, and by having it buttoned up to the top
shows they are casual but smart. Also the guitar the model is holding reflects the hobby or interest of an Indie
individual, I wanted to include the guitar because it is very important to the individuals because they are very
passionate about music and they are also good at what they do. Another aspect that the model reflects a
certain social group is the pose and stance of him. The shot that I used to take this photos was a low angle
shot, this allowed me to show how important the model is with his guitar and would do anything to become
very successful in music. Also because the model is not looking at you in the photo, it makes the photo look
even better because you can tell that the artist is focused on nothing but music. This also reflects who the
people are in the social group my magazines is targeting, they are very passionate about music, there
personalities are shown through what they wear and they want to be different from what society makes out to
be the norm.
