Interactions Among Living
Things (Tropical rainforests)
Discuss the interactions among living things and non-
living things in tropical rainforests, coral reefs and
mangrove swamps ( S6LT II i-j-5)
 Identify the living and non- living things in tropical
Rainforest.
 Describe the appearance of tropical Rainforest.
1. Have you seen a
rainforest?
2. How does it look like?
3. What are the living and
non- living things found in a
rainforest?
 What is rainforest?
 What are the living
and non-living things
found in the
rainforest?
What makes a rainforest?
 Rainforest are composed
of different varieties of
plants and animals and
living and non-living
things.
What are the other living and non-living things
that you may found in the rainforest?
 Ferns, mosses, liverworts and
bacteria are
living things while logs, decaying dead
bodies
of plants and animals are non-living
things.
A. Identify the living things and non- living
things present
in a tropical rainforest by writing LT for living things
and NLT
for non- living things.
1. flower
2. stone
3. bird
4. air
5. grass
6. trees
7. sunlight
8. soil
9. water
10. nest
Explain the interactions among living
and nonliving things in a tropical
rainforest in terms of:
a. Harmful and beneficial
interactions.
b. Effects of interactions
• What are the organisms found in
the first picture?
 Can you tell what they are doing?
 How do organisms interact with
one another?
 Can organisms benefit or be
harmed by these
interactions/relationships?
Guide Questions?
1. Describe what you have observed
in the picture?
2. What does the picture show?
3. Do the organisms harm the other
organisms in their relationship?
THE DIFFERENT INTERACTIONS
IN THE RAINFOREST
ECOSYSTEM.
1. Mutualism- A mutualistic relationship
is when two organisms of different
species "work together, each
benefiting from the relationship.
2. Commensalism - is a type of
relationship where one of the
organisms benefits greatly from the
symbiosis. The other is not helped
but is not harmed or damaged from
the relationship. In other words, this
is a one-sided symbiotic relationship.
3. Parasitism - is a
relationship between two
things in which one of them
(the parasite) benefits from
or lives off of the other, like
fleas on your dog.
4. Predation - A form of
symbiotic relationship between
two organisms of unlike species
in which one of them acts as
predator that captures and
feeds on the other organism that
serves as the prey.
Study the pictures below, explain the symbiotic relationships
shown by the organisms. Tell whether their relationship is
harmful or beneficial.
Identify the living and non- living
things in coral reefs, describe the
appearance of coral reefs
ecosystem, and explain the
harmful and beneficial effects of
their interactions.
Identify the living and non-living
things in a mangrove ecosystem,
describe the appearance of
mangrove swamp ecosystem
and explain the harmful and
beneficial interactions.
 What are the animals found in tropical
rainforest, coral reefs and mangrove swamps?
- Rainforests are populated with insects,
arachnids, worms, reptiles, amphibians and
mammals;
- In the coral reefs are sponges, fishes, jelly
fishes, anemones, sea stars and crustaceans;
- and in mangrove swamps are where fishes lives
and lay eggs; in mangrove swamps are white
ibis, brown pelican, heron, monkeys and turtles
How can you maintain the
number of animals in the
specific area?
- By protecting and conserving
them
As a learner, how can you able to protect
and conserve these animals?
- As a student, I will never destroy
their home and I will never kill them
for the sake of our living in order to
maintain their habitat and made them
survive for a long time.
THE WAYS ON HOW TO PROTECT AND
CONSERVE:
Tropical Rainforest
- Plant trees
- Don’t hurt the environment
- Don’t throw garbages
- Established parks to protect rainforests
and wildlife
- Support companies that operate ways that
minimize damage to the environment
Coral Reefs
- Avoid illegal fishing and destroying
coral reefs
- Don’t fish or boat near a coral reef
- Don’t throw garbages in the sea
- Avoid oil spills
- Plant trees
- Don’t purchase corals for souvenirs
Mangrove Swamps
- Plant more mangrove trees
- Don’t throw garbages near the
mangrove swamps
- Don’t cut down mangrove trees
Suppose you are designated in
your municipality as a protector of
a Tropical rainforest, coral reefs
and mangrove swamp, what will
you do to protect and conserve
it?
- As a municipality designated
protector, I will encourage people
living in my municipality to plant
more tress, putting up projects like
establishing signages that can give
signals to the people to protect these
habitats and I will not let the people
to destroy these habitats
What will happen to the animals
and plants if the Tropical
rainforest, coral reefs and
mangrove swamp where they
are living are not protected and
conserved properly?
- Animals living on these
different habitats will die. The
ecosystem will not be
balanced. It can also result to
the sickness of the people
that will lead to death
