Introduction
3
 Sensitisation: Sensitisation literally means making people sensitive
about an issue.
 Global Issues: Global problems are important problems that directly
affect not only an individual man, but also affect the whole planet and
potentially all the organisms living on it. Climate change, depletion of
ozone and global warming are the best examples of global problems.
Global Issues
 Resources: The Earth’s
resources are not unlimited,
they are exhaustible; increased
wasteful use of natural
resources on a regular basis
leads to their depletion, and
doesn’t allow them to renew.
The Global Resources
problem

Technology Availability
Cont....
Environmental Degradation is a growing concern as continued industrialisation is being
witnessed mostly in developed countries.
The three major negative impacts of technology on environment are:
 Environmental pollution due to waste output.
 Contributes to global warming.
 Depletion of natural resources.
6
Inequity refers to unfair, avoidable differences arising from poor governance,
corruption or cultural exclusion.
Inequity can be broadly classiffied
into:
 Economic Inequity:
Unequal distribution of income
and opportunity.
 Social Inequity: Uneven
distribution of resources in a
society based on religion, kinship,
prestige race, caste, gender etc.
Poverty
7
A state or condition in which a person or community
lacks the financial resources and essentials for a
minimum standard of living.
Three ways education can help end poverty;
 Education develops skills and abilities.
 Education can fight Inequality.
 Education can decrease risks and vulnerability.
Climate change can impact all the natural eco-
system and India’s rural population directly
depends on climate sensitive sectors.
Climate change can lead to potentially harmful
health effects, such as heat waves, severe storms,
ailments caused by air pollution and airborne
allergens etc.
Climate change education also termed as climate
literacy helps foster an understanding of climate
change and awareness to the current state of the
world.
Climate Change
8
Global Warming
9
Global warming is when the earth
heats up. It happens when greenhouse
gases CO2, water vapour, nitrous oxide,
and methane) trap heat and light from
the sun in the earth’s atmosphere,
which increases the temperature. Some
people, animals and plants can not
tolerate this change so they die.
Educating Responsible
Citizens
Schools and universities should raise people not just living
for today but thinking about the future, undertaking
responsibility for all their choices and actions, in particular
those related to global warming.
10
Raising Preparedness
11
Educational institutions should
ensure that students are ready for
disasters and have all necessary
knowledge to save their lives, can
distinguish threats before they gain
dangerous scale, instill the habit to
prevent problems rather than suffer
from consequences.
Education Preserve the Environment
12
People can benefit environment by following these simple steps:
 Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
Turning the lights off when not in use.
Turn the tap off while brushing and to not take long showers.
 Carrying reusable shopping bags.
Strategies to Sensitize people
13
Different strategies to sensitize people around us are:
 Improving Knowledge
 Changing attitudes
 Focus on Skills
 Building Social Support
