2. BUSTING THE MYTHS!
When thinking about PDHPE the most common misconception is
that PDHPE is all about running around outside playing game and
doing sport. Although this is a part of one component of PDHPE
there is so much more to it. The following slides will explain what
PDHPE is and why is so important in a student’s life and school.
3. WHAT IS PDH & PE?
PDH represents Personal Development and Health. This is where
students learn about their bodies, relationships, nutrition and
safety in society.
PE represents Physical Education. This is the component where
students play games which promote skills that are applicable over
many different types of sport.
4. WHAT DOES PDHPE PROMOTE?
The balance of both PDH & PE promotes a healthy lifestyle and
balanced decisions.
PDH encourages students to to think about and make informed
decisions regarding the health of their own bodies. This is done
through nutrition but also through the education of drug use and
sex. This gives students the knowledge to make safe living
decisions.
PE promotes not only physical skills such as locomotor skills, non-
locomotor skills and manipulation skills but also team work, self
confidence, problem solving skills as well as communication.
5. NOW I KNOW WHY PDHPE IS IMPORTANT!
The combination of both PDH & PE promote self confidence and
social wellbeing overall, which is so important in a students life
both inside and out of school.
PDHPE links many other KLA’s encouraging students to be active
in their learning and decision making in their lives.
