2. PG Rating
• Today, most thriller/horror films have a certificate of 15+
• 15 rated films may include one or more of the following- strong violence,
frequent strong language, portrayals of sexual activity, strong verbal
references to sex, sexual nudity, brief scenes or sexual violence,
discriminatory language or behavior or drug taking.
• We decided to follow this age certificate as we researched into numerous
films following a similar story line to ours such as Incidious (2011),
Poltergeist (2015) and Unfriended (2015) which all had an age rating of 15+.
3. Why would our final product attract a
15+ audience?
• Our film would attract an audience of 15+ due to young teens
being frequent users of social media meaning that online
advertising would encourage curiosity and popularity of our
film. By the use of pull advertisement from social media such
as a YouTube trailer, Twitter and instagram we could be able
to advertise our film to a large number of people cheaply via
social media.
• Also by having our protagonist aged 17 it is more likely to
attract younger people to the film as most protagonists are
adults aged between their late 20’s- 40’s.
4. The usual age for the target audience of a horror
film is 15-25. Commonly, the main reason for this is
that young adults and teenagers enjoy thrills. Trills
present in horror films are more likely to excite a
younger audience rather than an older one.
Many young audiences are not put off by graphic
images but are however attracted to them. For
example The Human Centipede (2009) is well know
and viewed specifically because of the graphic
images, themes it contains and its gruesome story
line. However this may put off older audiences due
to such graphic violence.
5. Horror films are generally aimed more at males
than females due to males stereotypically
enjoying violence and gruesome images more
than females.
In order for our film to attract the female
audience just as much as a male audience, we
made our 3 main protagonist female. We hope
that by doing this It may attract a larger female
audience more than if we was to use male
characters.
