1. Front end engineering
All Gerber files are checked prior to manufacturing to
eliminate any potential problems which may occur
during production. The tooling required is output using
Genesis software, with NC, AOI and test data as well as
plot files, which are sent to our Silver Writer to laser plot
the photo tools.
2. Drill shop
The drilling department has 20 drilling spindles and 10
profiling spindles, all operated by Sieb Meyer software
controllers. The drills range from 2 to 6 spindle machines
– ample capacity for all orders, whether low, medium or
higher volumes.
3. Wet shop
A horizontal direct metallisation line deposits a
conductive carbon layer in the holes of the PCB ready
for the copper plating process, which is achieved by an
8-cell copper plating line, with pulse engines and side-
to-side rectification.
4. Dry film
The dry film department has two Western Magnum
Laminators to apply the dry film, which is printed using
Cirgraphics vacuum frames. The photo tools are punched
via a 50x magnification camera to achieve maximum
registration accuracy when the boards are printed.
5. Silk screen
The silk screen department has a spray coater and
manual benches for ink application, with refrigerated
Colight exposure machines to print the image of the
photo tools onto light sensitive ink and on inkjet prints.
6. Finishes
A number of finishes can be applied in-house, including
leaded and lead-free HDSC, ENIG, silver and electrolytic
tin. We can subcontract additional finishes to match the
customer’s specification.
7. Testing
Flying probes are used in the testing department to
ensure all products are thoroughly tested before being
dispatched. We also use automatic optical inspection
(AOI) for inner layers and more complex copper layers, to
improve yield rates and reduce product wastage.
8. Final inspection
The final stage of the manufacturing process is a 100%
product inspection with the inspection pack generated
at the start of the job. Our inspectors also carry out
intermediate and final inspections using a Lynx System
with up to 80x magnification.
9. Packaging and dispatch
Every product is wrapped in acid-free tissue, vacuum
packed and then wrapped in bubble-wrap to ensure safe
arrival of a perfect product.
How Garner
Osborne make
high quality
products
Every stage of the
manufacturing process,
from front-end
engineering to final
delivery is measured for
quality and efficiency
– to create perfect PCBs.

10. Additional services
PCB prototype
Making a prototype is often essential when developing new products
and applications. This enables all aspects of the design to be managed
in an efficient manner resulting in less time and money spent when
undertaking a production run. We can manufacture and assemble a
prototype within five days when required.
• Eliminate issues before larger volumes of boards are produced
• Allow for refinement of requirements, allow a more accurate
final design and reducing rework costs
• Prototypes highlight unforeseen technical issues allowing
these to be addressed up front.
PCB brokerage service
Garner Osborne is the one stop solution for all your PCB needs.
We can manufacture onsite all small to medium-sized orders. For
larger needs we offer you the best PCB manufacture and assembly,
outsourced from trusted overseas partners.
A network of overseas partners is reliable and effective and we will
provide you with the most cost-effective solution within the best
timeframe.
Stock control and batch delivery
We offer customised, just-in-time (JIT) and Kanban* stock control
services to many customers. These enable a higher quantity of boards
to be ordered which we hold in stock and deliver in batches.
This service not only helps your cash flow as well but also allows us
to maintain the best price, with boards that are readily available to
call off as required. We go out of our way to give our customers
as smooth supply of required products as possible.
PCB design for manufacture
Our engineers have a wealth of experience in evaluating whether
a product can be manufactured and how this can be achieved. We
ensure the design includes consideration of ease of manufacture
and how it is likely to perform through the various assembly stages.
This input will have a great impact on cost of manufacture and
product reliability.
Working with PCB design bureaus
We work with many PCB design bureaus with different capabilities
and are therefore well positioned to take projects from design
concept through prototyping, into pre-production, all the way
to final manufacture and testing.
