Hurricane MarĂa was a Category 4
Hurricane that made landfall on
Wednesday, September 20, 2017
near the Yabucoa municipality at
6:15am local time.

â Estimates of total deaths range from
2,200-4,000
â All university campuses in Puerto Rico
were destroyed or severely damaged,
leaving hundreds of thousands of
students without educational facilities.
â No electric power, connectivity or water
for months.
â Most campuses closed for months, but
Sagrado had a power plant that allowed
for limited class offerings.

7. â 26 online synchronous courses offered from October-December 2017.
â 45 contact hours = 3-credit undergrad courses.
â 15 hours delivered on video recordings
â 30 hours delivered via live/face2face lecture hours
â Universidad del Sagrado CorazĂłn worked on delivery to students, acting
as registrar for course enrollment and validation
â Students completed courses before December 31st, 2017.

concerned with the short and long-term effects
that Hurricane MarĂa will have on Puerto Rico, and
especially on the Puerto Rican university students
who may be at risk of interruption in their studies.â

from an alternative method to continue their
