2. Canada and Afghanistan Do you believe Canada has a responsibility to protect the new democratic system in Afghanistan? What limits should be placed on that responsibility? What absolves Canada of the responsibility? Canada should have a responsibility to protect Afghanistan because we were one of the countries that imposed liberalism. Given that Canada was one of the countries that effectively eradicated Afghanistan from the Taliban, it should be our responsibility to continue to protect their country until they become a stable economy and society. However, if the Afghan people no longer desired the riddance of the Taliban and a democratic government, this factor would absolve the responsibility of Canada. Although Canada should continue to protect the Afghan people from the Taliban, this should be limited by protecting them until they are able to function as a country alone. If Canada keeps protecting them and interfering with their way of life, the Afghan will not learn how to be a stable economy and society, which could potentially lead to the Afghan’s relying solely on Canada’s help. The goals set for Canada to achieve in Afghanistan are practical and helpful because they are not only short term alterations, but also long term which allows the Afghan people to eventually continue a more stable and democratic way of life without the help of other countries.
