2. MIDDLE AGES
The cathedral of Notre Dame is located on the Ile de la Cité. The project
begun in 1163 by Bishop Maurice de Sully, it was finished in 1345. The
style of the church is called gothic, the windows are filled with stained
glass to give light inside.
It is 125 meters longs, with towers 63 meters
high.
3. Between 1190 and 1202, King Philippe-
Auguste built the Château du Louvre.
The foundations can be seen today in the
basement of the Louvre Museum.
The fortress was rectangular,
surrounded by 4 towers and a
moat.
4. RENAISSANCE PERIOD (16TH CENTURY)
The Pont Notre-Dame, built in
1512, was the first bridge in
Paris that held a street and 68
houses which were later
destroyed in 1786.
5. The First Hotel de Ville, the City Hall
of Paris was designed by King
François Ier ‘s favorite Italian architect
Cortona.
The construction started in 1533 and
was finished in 1628.

Place des Vosges was built in 1605 by Henry IV and inaugurated in 1612 by his
son Louis XIII. It was the first prestigious residential square in Paris.
It was renamed Place Royale in 1800.

was built between 1671 and
1678 by Louis XIV as the
chapel of a hospital for
injured soldiers. The city
had suffered greatly during
the wars of religion.
8. The Pont Neuf was
constructed during King
Henri IV’s reign. The
construction started in 1578
and finished in 1607.
It was the first bridge without
houses and with sidewalks.

The Panthéon built in 1758 and
finished in 1790, was originally called
church of Sainte-Genevieve. During
the Revolution it became a
mausoleum for French statesmen,
scientists and writers.

expanded and a new
boulevard called the
Champs-Elysées was born
in 1670.

The Luxor Obelisk was errected into place on the
Place de la Concorde on October 25 1836 under
King Louis-Philippe’s command. It is 23 meters
high and was brought from Egypt.

The architect, Charles Garnier

The construction of the Sacré-Cœur begun in 1873 but was not finished until
1919. It’s located in the district called Montmartre.
It’s a basilica and its architecture style is
called neo-byzantine.
14. The construction of the famous Eiffel Tower started in
1887 and was finished in 1889. It’s named after its
engineer Gustave Eiffel. To celebrate the 100th year of
the World's Fair, Paris wanted to create a unique and
astounding structure but it was only built as a temporary
structure, meant to last less than 20 years.
