Although this particular artform had enjoyed widespread
indigenous popularity since World War II, it remained largely
undiscovered by American audiences until the 1980s. In order
to achieve acceptance, American translations first had to
overcome some design differences.
One of them was the fundamental difference in the way that
the two scripts were read. This meant that early translations
had to print the page in reverse or cut and re-order individual
frames into left-to-right sequence.

In 2013, satellite images over a particular region showed a rather
curious anomaly. Adjacent localities, were lit up using different
methods of lighting. The historically poorer parts were lit up using
gas lights, and thus the glow wasnât nearly as strong as the
adjacent localities, which were historically the more affluent and
thus had been utilizing electric lighting.
However this is rather surprising, as about two decades prior, this
region was subject to something that should have removed these
differences away.

The picture on the next slide shows the Oheka Castle, built in
1917 by German-American investor Otto Hermann Kahn. The
Delano & Aldrichâdesigned residence, which cost Kahn $11
million, comprises 109,000 square feet and 127 rooms and
remains the second-largest private home in the country. The 443-
acre grounds were designed by the Olmsted brothers. The estate
even secured a spot on the National Register of Historic Places.
Itâs greater claim to fame was that it served as the inspiration
behind the setting of a work of fiction from the early parts of the
20th century.

This minimalist house in Lelystad, the Netherlands, designed by
Amsterdamâs Studio Klink, is not what youâd first expect when
imagining a building based on Xâs trippy and colorful classic. But
the concept, according to the architects, was much more
cerebral:
âVilla Peet was designed as a sequence of contrasting spatial
experiences,â they explain. âThese contrasts create a feeling of

The term X literally means âBelly speakerâ. This however is a
misnomer as this skill was believed to be the result of using the
stomach in a special way while breathing in. But this is not the way
it works.
A X forms the words in a normal manner. What he does is allow
the breath to escape slowly, the tones are muffled and the mouth is
opened as a possible. The tongue is pulled back and only the tip is
moved. The pressure on the vocal cords to muffle the tones
spreads the sound, greater the pressure, greater is the
characteristic illusion associated with a X.

Sam Wilson delivered meat packed in barrels to soldiers during
the War of 1812. Wilson was a well-liked and trustworthy man in
Troy, and local residents called him X. When people around town

meant X, and the soldiers adopted the same thinking. And thus X
came to symbolize something.
