3. What is Augmented Reality?
It is view of the real, physical world in which
elements are enhanced by computer-generated
input and input may be sound ,video and graphics.
A technology that superimposes a computer -
generated image on a user's view of the real world.
4. What is the Goal of AR?
To enhance a person’s performance and perception of the
world.
But, what is the ultimate goal????
Create a system such that a user
CANNOT tell the difference between
the real world and the virtual
augmentation of it.
5. Hardware
Key hardware components in AR-based devices are
1. Processor
2. Display - either a monitor, handheld device,
eyeglass or Head Mounted Displays (HMD).
3. Input Devices - either the camera of a
Smartphone or a webcam connected to the
internet .
4. Sensors – they can be gyroscope or
accelerometer of a mobile device or it could be
an infrared sensor.
6. Software
Special 3D Augmented reality programs like
D’Fusion are used in AR-based applications.
Virtual images, used for overlapping over the
real live image, can be generated using 3D
software. Software can be -
1. AutoCad3D
2. Studio Max
3. Cinema4D
7. Remote Server
Apart from this hardware and software, web
or cloud server plays an important role in
storing the database of virtual images.
Based on the request received from AR
application, virtual images are retrieved
from web or cloud server and sent to
application.
8. Working Principle Of AR
Four types of approaches :-
1. Marker-based
2. Projection
3. Marker-less
4. Superimposition - based
9. Maker-Based
It detects the object in front of the camera and provides
information about the object on the screen.
The algorithm then uses the image of the camera as well
as the decoded marker ID to augment the virtual object
onto the physical world model.
Eg google goggles,
10. Marker-less
Known as location based AR because
easy availability of the features in the
Smart phones that provide location
Detection.
Uses – help travelers, helps users to discover interesting places within their
current location.
11. Projection AR
Projection of light on surface
interaction is done by touching the projected surface
with hand.
Example - deception about the position, orientation,
and depth of an object.
13. Advantages And Disadvantages
Advantages
1. Business
Improvements
1. Navigation and
tourism
1. Immersive Video
gaming
Disadvantages
1. Issues About
Privacy
1. Dangers of Reality
Modification
1. Implementation
Requirements
14. Application
Medical
AR apps can be used to overlay anatomy data
on 3D human skeleton giving them a better
understanding of how the human body works.
Gaming
Allow users to experience and interact
with a game using a real world environment.
Fashion
Show what different makeup or hairstyle
options might look like on a person.
Television
Display weather visualizations and images.
15. Future Scope of
Augmented Reality
Military - used in military to provide
locations of enemy positions
Education - to explore the aspects of an
ancient civilization as part of a history
lesson
Marketing and Commercial - can be used
to promote a new product
16. Challenges
Multi-user issue
Augmented reality app development services provide a
single user experience. This is the major constraint to the AR
app services.
GPS Readings issue
It is well known that the ideal range for proper GPS
reading is 6 meters. This range is enough for navigation
systems and digital maps, but it holdups the
performance of AR software.
Software adaptation Issue
issues when it comes to the integration of functions like
social media with AR browsers.
Public Awareness issue
17. Conclusion
There is no doubt that Augmented Reality
will reshape more than just these
Industries . As devices adapt to the new
technology , the growth of Augmented
Reality is exponentially huge. With so many
positive advantages, AR could
fundamentally change what it is to be
human.
